online transaction tips
Hi there,
I am not sure this is a lame question or anyone has asked before. Please let me know if any FAQ or thread that I should read on.
What is the safest transaction method to sell online? PayPal or COD or Western Union money transfer or SWIFT etc?
I have never done this before, so I have no idea about how things work here.
I am looking for a safest way to sell my stuff while it should be a good method for a buyer.
Thanks a lot.

Re: online transaction tips
i've used paypal (whether i was buying or selling) about 10 times now and haven't had any problems. its also nice because a lot of online stores accept paypal, so you can use that instead of giving your credit number online (hey you never know) each time you buy something

so do you ship your stuff when you receive a payment in your pay pal account from buyer or you ship it before you receive payment?
Is it also a good method for a buyer?

like the response above, DEFINITELY wait for payment. as someone that buys stuff online using paypal, i'd say its a good method for buyers as well.
one thing to point out: i sold one of my guitars and the guy paid with an e-check, which wouldn't clear for 5 days or so. in that case, even though i technically received their payment, i waited for it to clear. there are a lot of scammers (you've probably read enough about them on this site) so you can't trust anyone online unfortunately.
but yea, use paypal. i haven't heard any complaints about it

Re: online transaction tips
Paypal does have some stupid rules though- im not entirely sure about the figures, but you can only EVER send £1500, and recieve £500 per transaction/month unless you upgrade to thier premier buisness account-thing, which is a lot of hassle with direct debits and phone calls, and then they charge 3% on everything...grrr...
I've heard Nochex is quite good.

i have a business account and it wasn't a big deal at all. the 3% thing does bite if you're selling something really expensive. i've never had to worry about a transfer though, so to me it's worth it

Re: online transaction tips
Thank you for discussing on this topic.
But how about I am a buyer? Should I send money first before I receive the stuffs?
What if a seller disappears after he receives my payment? How do they protect this kind of thing?

any smart seller would not ship until they receive the payment. so if you are the buyer, you'll be sending the money and then getting your item after that.
i've never had a problem with sellers ditching me, but all of the information from the money transfer is stored in your account, so you'd have documentation if you needed to take action against someone
