I received a full refund against his will. He initially did not want me to pay with paypal but I told him the deal was off if I couldn't use it. 9 months later I disputed the charge with the credit card that I use for paypal. I got all my money back. Paypal itself is useless, the credit card companies, on the other hand are very aggressive.
BTW, 4 weeks pass due is like 15 minutes to him, don't bother contacting him, try after the first 3 month delay. Keep demanding to see pics of the work but be advised, he sent me fake pics of a completed guitar to try to get me off his back. He is not beyond using any lie, cheat or scam.

Re: Patrick SIMS (custom shop in TN, USA) experiences
still up to the same old tricks I see. He had my guitar for over
a year & half, and I had to start the legal process to get it back.
I now only do business with local guitar shops that I can walk
into at anytime. If you are considering Sims as an option,
force him to only take a partial payment. You can pay the rest once
he sends you a legit tracking number. Put the ball back into your
own court I say. If they don't agree, find someone else to do business
with is my opinion. Good luck either way 'fellas!

You know, this thread has become a broken record. We know his business acumen and ethics suck. When he wants to, he seems to put out some very nice work. He's also sent people substandard work as well. If anyone has read this thread and went ahead and did business with him, it's their own damn fault. Same goes if they deal with Woods, Vegas Ed or DeVries. People gotta go homework before sending anyone a sh*tload of cash.

Some people want to believe that their order won't be delayed for an inordinate amount of time. They want their dream guitar so bad that they are blinded by their desire for it and place an order with him anyway.
In all fairness, he doesn't screw up every order. As a matter of fact, he gets more orders right than he does wrong. As far as delivery dates, some people are more patient and forgiving then others. It comes down to whether or not one is willing to take chance or not. Someone of will and some of us won't.
That said here are (2) facts to consider:
1) Based upon the work he did for me, I will say that the end result was good for me but don't buy into his hype. His work is not the be-all-end-all. I've had guitars painted by someone else, the work was just as good quality-wise (and in 2 cases, the work was artistically something Patrick could not pull off) and I didn't have to wait months and months and months. Patrick is very good at taking flattering pictures of his finish work that make it seem more amazing than it is in real-life.
2) Patrick has told me that the more complex paint jobs will get done "when he feels like it" so you will wait...and wait...and wait. He prefers to batch simple, single color jobs together for efficiency's sake. While I can understand this reasoning (to some degree) for production's sake, I also feel it's unfair to the customers that order more complex paint jobs (which also cost more money) and do not have their work handled in the order in which is was received (first come, first serve).
Patrick does business the way he wants. The customers do not come first, he does and all the evidence supports that statement.
As always, let the buyer beware.

Re: Patrick SIMS (custom shop in TN, USA) experiences
heh heh, sorry, that was a good laugh.
Customers are not his top priority. If you've sent him money, I hope he does contact you about the work you contracted him to do but, especially if you live outside the Cont. USA, history shows chances are not good.

Re: Patrick SIMS (custom shop in TN, USA) experiences
Well he's had my body for almost 2 years (and my $400). He's on the fender site as well as the unofficialwarmoth site trying to scurry up business. I'm trying to hunt him down. Not saying im going to get physical but if something were to happen to him, the list of suspects would be long.

Well he's been banned from (3) different forums so he has to surface somewhere. It's like a game of Whack-A-Mole with him.

He was just banned from metalguitarist.org He sent one of the moderators there a Ibanez type body that was so poorly routed (body perimeter) that another real luthier had to sand it all out properly. THere were some other issues too like the neck pocket.
Patrick bought a robo router . And the way he set it up to cut the outside of the body was to make straight jogs down and out .In other words, it made lots of straight cuts instead of swinging an arc around the body like it should. So Patrick flowed a super heavy coat of sealer over the body and said that all anyone had to do was just sand the sealer coat a bit and shoot color over it. Needless to say, that's complete crap.
My own experience with Simms was on the bay and his game was to not ship any items until after the amount of time that paypal allowed to file grievances . I told him I would file a paypal complaint immediately if I didn't get a tracking number the next day and lo and behold I got that tracking number . Then in my feedback, which I gave as positive , I mentioned the nearly 4 week wait for the body and here is his reply
"Paid by check, took 1 week to arrive, 11 days to clear .....blah blah " But I paid instantly with paypal so that means he is a base liar. So that's my story about Patrick. I'll never do business with him again.

You will want to upload those to something like photobucket for hosting.
