Perleguitars
So I bought a
DNA swirl
from perleguitars on the bay and loved it. I wanted to do a Strat & Tele swirl and asked him if I could send him some Warmoth bodies and he said no problem. I just got the pics back today (only a 2 week turnaround) and I must say, they look amazing!!! I'm very pleased with everything, from the communication to the swirls to the turnaround.
Here are the pics:

Do I see raw wood?
Doesn't this guy seal the bodies before dipping?

Re: Perleguitars
First one looks decently done, the second one does not. Really does look like the wood wasnt sealed and looks pretty amature-ish.

Yes he does, he grainfilled the Ash
Strat body
as well. He just doesn't spend time on places that are going to be covered, like where the pups are and the likes.

Re: Perleguitars
Indeed, they don't look like they were sealed or primed.
There are some drips on the guitars (black on the tele is pretty obvious).
I like the colors on both of them, to be honest, and I think the swirls look good. They do seem to suffer from some translucency issues (too thin maybe) on the strat.

Re: Perleguitars
That's exactly what I meant, it looks thin, especially on the strat. Take a look at some other swirled bodies around here just for comparison.

I see that, I think it may be the colors used perhaps. I've noticed that his colors are more pastel than traditional Jem colors, but since these aren't Jems, I'm not worried about it. He does grain fill, seal and prime though. I didn't want anyone to think he wasn't professional enough to do that.
And no need for me to look at other swirls, I'll take a gander at my 77PMC or DNA if I need a fix
.
These babies will look great once they are clear coated and have the hardware. Remember, they aren't Jems and will have standard pickguards on them, not clear pickguards. My least favorite part of the Strat will be covered by the pickguard.
I will say that I like the backs of both guitars better than the fronts, but I'm an ass man so that may have something to do with it
.

Re: Perleguitars
Dude, they look cool.
I'm not a huge fan of the second one either, but I like the first one a lot.
Pick up cav's are looking like they are a little thin on the sealer, but WHO CARES AS LONG AS YOU LIKE THEM! If they were sealed at all then all will be fine, and sometimes even if it's not it still turns out fine. Pearl is a good guy. He has some cool swirls on Zbay every now and then. I'm hoping he does another BLACK, ORANGE, GREY (hint, hint, hint).

Re: Perleguitars
You know someone brings up a great point on the whole "back looks better than the front" thing.
I had a guy who was doing swirls for me. I used to say the same thing. "The back is turning out better than the front." His response was that it just worked out that way. I told him to hold the guitar the other way and sure enough the fronts started looking better.
Now I don't know it could just be fluke, but does it make any difference which way you hold the guitar when you dip it?
Just curious.
