"pick-up-only" auctions

They's a guitar I like on the bay at the moment, but the seller (who's maybe 120 miles away) is hosting a "pickup only auction" so I'll have a 4 hour round trip (at least) to go get the guitar, which I can see adding 10% to the cost of the guitar in petrol at the moment, and costing me a day out of my weekend.

But it's a nice rare guitar in seemingly good condition.

Do any of my fellow forumites have alarm bells ringing for me on this one, or if Mrs Jono will untie the purse strings, shall I place a bid on said item?

Re: "pick-up-only" auctions

Whats a road trip to go pick up a guitar? Especially just 4 hours. Not to mention......the benefit would be getting there, and if it doesnt compare to the price, you can decline it right there, or negotiate, or what ever, versus getting screwed having a hunk of crap shipped to ya, and never being able to get ahold of the guy anymore.
Just my opinion though.

(wish my wife would "untie the purse strings")

I don't mind pickups if they're close. Better that than a minty $400 '78 GB-10 that's pickup only and located in California!
