Questionable seller from Brazil

Watch out for someone named Al from Brazil using the email address atlanticguitars@yahoo.com
I was dealing a a GMC that he couldn't provide pictures of (said he didn't have a digital, and when I offered to reimburse him for camera pictures, he never answered.). He basically wanted me to send him money blind. AND he only wanted to use Western Union and not escrow.com. He had asked me for references, but I don't have any and I told him that and he gave me his phone #, but I can't call him because I don't have long distance. Now that he wants out of the deal because he won't agree to escrow, he throws both of those things in my face.
I will not say that he is a scam man, but I do want to warn everyone that he MAY BE a little fishy.

FYI Josh

By the way, I'm still looking for GMC #916644 that this guy says he has, but can't get me pics!!!

Re: Questionable seller from Brazil

Funny you should say this, I was just about to post about the same guy.
When I got in from college today at 1:30, I got an email from a guy called Al at that address - atlanticguitars@yahoo.com. He was emailing me telling me that he had a Kramer 5150 1984 Reissue for sale.....because I posted a "wanted" advert for one on here.

I could tell instantly something was fishy because the only thing that was in the email was the price he wanted for it and some pictures of the guitar.

So obviously he has been scanning here on Jemsite too. Very fishy though. And what a coincidence!! I cant believe it.

He just emailed me a pic of the neckplate he says his friend took minutes ago with a camera phone. Still proceeding with caution...

Breaking news...
A minute ago, he didn't want to use PayPal, only Western Union and deal by tomorrow. I told him I would have to pass. Back to being fishy...

Back and forth, we sell, won't sell, deal to complicated. I guess that is that. If anyone runs across GMC #916644, let me know. Now that I hurried and got the money arranged...sigh...

Just got an email from escrow.com. Everything he said that they couldn't do, they actually can. Now I'm beginning to feel better about not sending this guy any money!

Just curious- Did you used to own this guitar, and want it back? (Wondering about why you're looking for that particular number) If that is the case, I hope you find it. I've sold a LOT of guitars that I wish I could have back.

I did!!
Here's what happened. I wanted escrow, and he didn't. He had a bunch of reasons not to use them, but I proved him wrong. His biggest "worry" was that he couldn't get the money if he didn't have an US bank account. I even emailed escrow.com and asked them that specific question. They emailed and said that they could. I was nice enough to forward it to him to let him know. So he sends me a nasty email back telling me that I was a prick, I'd never get the guitar from him, ect. I told him to "keep the f*&!ing guitar. I wouldn't take it from you if you gave it to me!" We'll see how he likes that. Attack me for stating facts will ya...

Yeah, I got the guitar for a high school graduation present from my mom. That's kinda why I want(ed) it back.

Re: Questionable seller from Brazil

My only comment in this thread is, if he sent you his phone number, to me, long distance or not, it'd be worth the $10 phone call to the guy to get more info. Even if your personal phone won't let you call out LD, go to a friends house, give them a $20 and make the call.

Yeah, I can relate. I'd take Jeremy's advice, and call him! If this IS in fact the guitar, and it can be worked out, I'd get it back. Even is the guy is a complete prick, you'll only need to deal with him until you get the guitar. But, you'll have the GUITAR forever!

Re: Questionable seller from Brazil

Funny thing, I tried to call today, but it's not an actual phone #. Even tried it twice!

I would like to have the guitar back, that is why I tried to buy it from him.

All I wanted was some pictures. He couldn't supply them, said he didn't have a digital camera. All he had to do was borrow a camera, take some pics, and send them to me. I live in North Dakota, and can throw a rock and hit a digital camera!! I would imagine that some parts of Brazil are the same way. If he has all the stuff he says he has, he knows someone with a digital. I even offered to reimburse him all his money to take regular camera pictures and send them. He didn't even respond to that offer. And, if someone is so instistant that someone use Western Union, and lies about what escrow.com can and can't do, they really aren't worth calling, right? AND, I didn't get his phone # until after all the above.

Anyway, there are a lot of other red flags that went up for me over the last couple of days trying to deal with this guy. Be warned...
