Scams from France?
Quick question.
I have an auction listed on u know where, and got 2 inquiries asking the same thing, both from France a couple hours apart. Granted, I know it's mid-day there when they were asked, but I am just curious if there is anyone with knowledge of an abundance of scams originating there lately?

Re: Scams from France?
I had sold a neck to a guy in France through e Bay not too long ago, the deal went fine!
I'd check some more details on 'em before concluding they were scams though.
Anyway, hope it goes fine.

Re: Scams from France?
Every time I go to Ireland to visit the relatives they tell me "get a few more days for your next trip and we'll watch the kids while to run off to Paris". I can't wait to go to France
But on topic, I'm not aware of any particularly French scams. What did the email ssay that made you suspicious, or was it just that you got two from France in short order?

Re: Scams from France?
I received 2 early this morning that just seemed too much of a coincidence was the only flag. you start seeing multiple nigerian emails, the flag goes up, automatically, thats all this was.
I dug some more, they seem legit, so I will proceed with caution.
I will just wait til funds clear before I ship.
Thanks!

It's true
At the moment I'm searching for pink dimarzio to finish a RG550. Numbers of seller on bay who don't want to sell to europe are incredible. I can't understand difference between selling to someone from our country or someone from another one. In most case It will be someone with the same passion. If seller pay shipping ok, but most of time it's buyer and payement is with paypal. (I'm not talking about restriction to official dimarzio dealer)

What risk for the buyer? I'm the seller, I have more risk, in my opinion:
I accept the payment, it clears, I ship the guitar, then a week or two goes by and the buyer claims he never received the instrument. I have no way of verifying in in any case, as the tracking system does not follow the parcel beyond customs. The buyer then disputes with Paypal, for some reason, lets say they are sympathetic to his claims, they refund his money. I'm out the money AND the guitar!
The risk is enough to make anyone second guess their range of shipping.
I have sold and helped ship things to the EU and UK, it also helped that the person had a good reputation and they were/ are people I still deal with routinely.
The issue here is all I ave to go by is the buyer's feedback, which could be a compromised account.
I'm just making sure I'm not being cleaned out.

I am just picking on you frogs. One of the problems I suppose is the hassle of shipping overseas.

If you use UPS or DHL, the tracking number go to buyer, and this can be a proof for paypal. And I'm not sure that paypal don't accept tracking from usps. There is a proof that you ship a pack.
for the compromised account ,there can be a risk but If you use security payment, shipping with insurrance and tracking numbers I can't see the risk.
For the case of the buyer who tell that he didn't receive anything, according to me there is same risk between same country and other country....
scam
are everywhere, like real customer
I bought my 555 from australia, lot's of pickup or trems from US, my lefty 7 from UK...when your lefty and ibanez lover you should buy everywhere
Recently I bought a trem from US (it's a shop). I pay with paypal, and tell attached to my payement the shipping address. I forget that paypal give the primary register address with payement (I receive the confirmation from paypal and saw this address). This was a real issue, cause till my inscription from paypal ('04 or '05 ) I move from another address.
I send a lot of mail to seller to know where he ship the trem....no reply.
With no hope, I go to my post office to explain the issue, they can't do nothing. So I go to my old address, leave a paper for the post office which explain that I do not live here anymore and give my new one....and one week later I receive my trem on my actual address with a new packing made from post office with address correction (thank's to my postman)
I know that I shouldn't leave my old address to my paypal account, but normally when you receive a form with 2 shipping address, you try to contact buyer to know the right one.
I think that buyer take more risk that seller. If I receive nothing? what can I do? tell the police? they do nothing for local scam, so internationale scam...the bay give you more security

Re: Scams from France?
It isn't any more likely to be a scam than it would be if they were Americans, probably a bit less likely considering their European Union economy is actually stronger than the American one. It's one thing when it is a country where the economy is so poor that it is highly unlikely that there is a legitimate buyer, but France is no where near being in that sort of position.
