Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Body delivered today back from SCS. I just opened it after putting the kids down for bed. This finish is freaking breathtaking. Ive havent seen clearcoat like this in 40+ guitars Ive personally owned over the years and beeelions of guitars Ive seen and sold over the 10 years I worked at Sam Ash. Im talking super thick and wet looking. The pictures Patrick gave me (which I posted a few in this thread dont even do it justice) Im not exagerating at all its RETARDED how good this looks. I cant decide if I want to make a guitar out of this or just roll around naked on it.

All kidding aside, I can see why Patrick ended up doing so many of those fancy Warrior guitars and basses. Kudos man, you deserve it and you sure as hell are doing my next custom 7. (Damn that bursted FP material thread in the other section)

Strongest possible reccomendation from me for whats its worth.

Wow, that looks like Glass. I'd say gold or all black hardware would look killer with that wood color.

I think gold hardware would look stunning on that.

I actually stuck some Gold Gibson Classic 57's I had laying around in there just to see what gold hardware on that might look like. I liked it, but my wife told me it looked like a "Old lady's fancy coffee table"...... I guess thats a no from her lolz.

Oh well...

I think gold looks best on natural finishes.

I think she just doesnt like gold for whatever reason. She says the same thing about the hardware on my LP Custom.

That really looks awesome.

What sort of turnaround time did you get from SCS?

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Whole thing was about 4 weeks but part of that time was him doing all the finish sanding and sealing. Im very very pleased with his work. Im actually planning to get him to do a fabric topped/clearcoated 7 next. If I can find fabric/material/printed whatever similar enough to a BFP to make a 7 string BFP Ill be in hog heaven.

if you check out this thread, the guitar 2nd from the right has about the best BFP pattern I've seen, and it doesnt look to girly.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Heres a sneak peak of the Spalted Maple guitar we're going to produce in a limited edition....

The body is multi-laminate and is 11 pieces across and 3 pieces deep. It has a bookmatched black line 5A Flame Spalted Maple top. Center accent is 5A Flame Maple, Black Walnut with Wenge stripes and a center core of Curly Bubinga. Top set is laminated to a Brazilian Cherry accent stripe (for creative carving effects on the forearm area, trem cavity, etc) and African Mahogany on the back for weight reduction, a warm tone and stunning looks, it too has figure in it. It will also feature a 7 piece neck that matches the center section on the back of the guitar exactly......outside wings of the neck will be African Mahogany, laminated to Wenge and Curly Bubinga down the middle. It will have a matching 5A Spalted Maple headstock overlay and logo in Paua Abalone (May not say Ibanez, but rather SIMS or something alike, not sure yet) May also have a slightly different shape than a factory Ibanez headstock, also undecided on that, we may do 4 tuners on the top and 2 on the bottom, that is still being discussed too, whatever looks the best is what we'll go with. The neck has a Wenge fretboard which will help brighten it up and will compliment the Wenge stripes nicely. It will have Paua Abalone Roman Numerals inlayed in the fretboard....III, IV, VII, IX, XII, XV, XVII, XIX, XXI, XXIV

The bodys and necks will be cut on a CNC machine to very tight specs, and will come with whatever hardware and tuners the customer wants. The 1st one (which is mine) has been routed for an edge, but it can be routed for whatever kind of tremelo system you prefer, i.e....edge pro, lo-pro edge, floyd rose, etc....I also prefer two humbuckers b/c I never use a single coil, but they can also be routed in any pickup configuration desired, i.e....H--, H-S, HS-, H-H, HSS, HSH, HHH.

Like I said, these are going to be produced in limited #'s and we are currently accepting orders. Serial # PJS001 is mine (below), Serial #'s JDL002 and MDM003 already have deposits put on them. The 1st 3 letters of the Serial # will be the 3 initials of the Original Purchasers name, and of course the three digits afterwards will represent the # of that guitar. They will all be serial numbered and signed like any other high end guitar. After the 1st run of these (25 or less) we will relpace it with our second style which is currently being cut as well and will feature other exotic woods. It will be a 13 piece multi-laminate body and a 9 piece neck.

They will be a natural finish with a super slick clear. We're going to be selling these for $1499, which will include everything from the wood, pickups ($100 each or less), electronics, tremelo, tuners, neck, inlay, etc, to the finish. These will be done one at a time, and will have the fit & finish that you would expect from a high end guitar.

Let me know what you guys think. I should have the 1st few ready, assembled and ready to go by Mid to late November.

(Pictures below are of the body before being finished on CNC machine.)

A few pics of the body blank before it was cut....
