Spalting can continue over time. It's best to take Spalted Maple under a gloss finish. Some guys soak it in superglue or something else to lock it in, so it doesn't deteriorate over time. But Sims' sealer is perfect for Spalt.

I wouldn't recommend oiling this body either, but rather clear coating it.

The latest custom JEM body out of Sims Custom Shop. 13 pieces total. This blank features an awesome bookmatched FLAME MAPLE top set, you just can't see the figure yet b/c its not clear coated. Top is laminated to a PADAUK core with a BLACK WALNUT back and the center accent is 11 layers of BLACK WALNUT, PADAUK, and FLAME MAPLE.

I don't do lions claws. We supply all the wood and body blanks to Christopher Woods already glued up and he does all the CNC work.

Ohhhh, and all this time I thought you were making all these bodies yourself...

No, I pick the wood out myself, cut and glue up the body blanks, and I have another guy who makes blanks for me as well, then I send them all to Chris and he cuts them for me on his CNC machine, then sends them back to me and I seal and clear coat them. I send him wood already made, laminated and glued up and let him do the cutting.

He is also helping me design my own guitar right now on the CNC machine, which will have be done in exotic woods, multi-laminate, and have a carved top and 3 to 13 piece necks. It won't look like an Ibanez tho, simiar to a PRS or guitars of that nature. Will be offered in a hard tail and fixed bridge set up. I have already sent him the outline of how I want the guitar shape to look and some measurements. I hope to have the prototype done sometime in January.
