I send him wood already made, laminated and glued up and let him do the cutting.

He is also helping me design my own guitar right now on the CNC machine, which will have be done in exotic woods, multi-laminate, and have a carved top and 3 to 13 piece necks. It won't look like an Ibanez tho, simiar to a PRS or guitars of that nature. Will be offered in a hard tail and fixed bridge set up. I have already sent him the outline of how I want the guitar shape to look and some measurements. I hope to have the prototype done sometime in January.

Ever thought about getting your own CNC? There fairly cheap nowadays and pays for itself over time. And god man, anything but PRS, ANYTHING!!!...

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

I like a PRS style Carved top guitar. Thats just the 1st model, we will have several different styles. It don't look like a PRS, but I couldn't think of any other guitar to compare it to. Its not like an Ibanez, it does not have real sharp horns, it has a carved top, etc.....its PRS'y, Carvin CT6M like, etc, you know, one of those types of guitars if that makes since. A little round around the edges, a little rounder horns, exotic wood tops, headstock with 3+3 or 4+2 tuners, set neck, etc....I plan on making a model thats more of a medal guitar as well, non-carved top, sharper edges, sharper horns, etc....

I would like to buy my own CNC, and I will eventually I'm sure. But right now me and Chris have a very good deal worked out and for the time being its working out great for the both of us. Once I get a little bigger I will look more into it, and if my guitar designs sell well it would definitely be more feasible to buy my own CNC machine cuz I don't know if Chris could build all my guitars and keep up with his existing customers and orders. I guess I'll just have to cross that bridge when I get to it.

If you like a Carvin CT6M shape/style mixed with a PRS type carved top then you can get a general idea of what our 1st model will look like, its not like either one, just similar. I'll try to post some pics as soon as we get the prototype a little further along. It will come as a hard tail where the strings go through the body and a tremelo style with a floyd rose. I'm really look forward to it.

Well if you hurry up and get a few made before NAMM, you should try to get a booth going if it isn't to late...(probably is though)

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

I already checked into it about 4 months ago.......$10,000 for a 10x10 was what I was told. Not to mention it would probably cost me $5,000 to get out there, stay, and come back. I figured around $20,000 to go out there, have a nice display made, stay, and come back. Not feasible at the moment, b/c I've already got alot of business considering we may be picking up Sadowsky guitars too. I spoke with Roger Sadowsky yesterday and he's going to be needing approx 28 guitars a month painted. If it works out then I'll probably have to hire a few more people. Maybe I'll look into Namm next year, but right now I honestly don't know if I want to spend that kind of cash, I honestly don't know how much it would help me. I'm sure it would help get the Sims Custom Shop name out a bit, but with a 10x10 I would just be a needle in the hay stack, I'm just not sure if it would be worth the costs.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

are you serious, wow, never thought it would be that much, I figured a few grand tops. I guess it would be cheaper to just send a few guitars to a Guitar Player (or other guitar mag) editor and if its good enough they would do a write up on it.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

I would have never thought it was that expensive either. I was thinking around $1,000 to $1,500, to $2,500 tops for a 10x10, I was amazed when they told me $10,000. Then I got to thinking of how much money some of the vendors put out who have displays MUCH larger than that. One would really have to have alot of money to have a decent size area and a good looking booth. I'd say theres alot of people who have 75k or more invested in their space and their booth. And it would really be pointless to split a 10x10 with someone, b/c you can't fit hardly anything into a 5x5 spot. Who would want to pay 5k to put out a table and maybe one guitar?

I guess it just takes alot of time and alot of sells to work your way up to being able to have a nice big booth at something like Namm, thats fine tho, gives me something to work towards

I'm definitely going to try to go to some of the big guitar shows next year to advertise our new guitars as well as our painting, and the guitar shows are much more affordable to go than NAMM is.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

We have also designed our own guitar. More than likely it will be called a "Sims Custom Shop" guitar and we will have different models like the....

Sims Custom Shop Flat Top
Sims Custom Shop Arch top
Sims Custom Shop Carved Top

We will have a total of 4 different body styles to choose from, two single cutaway styles and two double cutaway styles, all available in the Flat top, Arch top or Carved top. Virtually every option will be available, below you can see a few....

- Multiple scales available, 25 inch scale, 25.5 etc...
- 6 string & 7 string versions available with each style
- Hard Tail versions (Tone pros) and Tremelo versions (Using an Original Floyd Rose)
- 22 fret or 24 fret. Bolt on, may be offering a set neck as an option
- Any color Hardware (Black, Chrome, Gold, etc)
- Sperzel tuners
- Any pickup available and any pickup configuration
- All guitars will have Real Mother or Pearl Roman Numeral Inlays starting at the 1st fret
- Available in Any color.....Kandies, Metallics, Pearls, Transparent Tints, and Grain Enhancements on figured tops
- Exotic tops will be available, including Hawaiian Koa, Redwood, Buckeye Burl, Quilt or Curly Maple, Flame Maple, Spalted Flame Maple, Figured Walnut, etc....
- Backs on Figured top guitars and painted guitars will be available in Mahogany, Swamp Ash, Maple, Alder, Basswood, etc....
- LED necks will also be an option

We hope to have the 1st few built and completed by the end of January. The prototypes have been completed and are currently being built into a CNC program which will be cutting the bodies, necks, etc....

Below is a sneak peek of a few pieces of the body. This is the prototype of the carved top. Also check out the headstock shape. No its not a 4 string, we just haven't drilled the other 2 holes yet. We will probably be moving the tuner holes slightly from where they are now.

Hope you like!

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Once again we still have to drill the last two holes on the bottom of the headstock. We will probably bring the tuners down as well on the top about a 1/16"

Above is one of the Double Cut away styles we're going to do......below is the second Double Cutaway style we will be producing. The final version of the second double cutaway style will look VERY close to the picture below, the only differences will be some minor tweaking on some of the body lines, and we will be using the headstock shape in the above picture, not the one below. This will be the Flat top.

(notice it has different shaped horns than the 1st one as well and are much sharper) This will be more of a Rock style to where the above style is more of a Prs'y style with the rounder lower horn........both styles will be available tho in the flat top, arch top and carved top.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

For the last few months I have been designing some guitars that will be the brand name "Sims Custom Shop". I have already built the prototype by hand and am just now finishing up the CNC program on the Carved Top versions. They are different in quite a few ways than the 1st black prototype thats pictured above.

They will be offered in 3 body styles, a Single Cutaway, Double Cutaway, and the Retro. The Single and Double will be offered in 4 unique contours.

I hope to have the 1st few finished and built by the end of January. They will be offered with a ton of options allowing you to build it however you want it. 7 strings, 8 strings, choice of woods, pickups, trem or hard tail, etc.......Check out our site at www.simscustomshop.com for pics, specs, prices, etc....

I just got it all up on the site today.

Thanks!

Patrick Sims

Are you kidding me!?!? I've always thought it would be amazing for someone to have Roman numeral inlays! I thought that this was solely my idea! Incredible!
