Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Cool! Guess great minds think alike....I was just sitting here one day thinking "Hmmm......what would be something really cool for inlay that no other guitar company has and that would be kinda functional or helpful too......then it hit me, roman numerals.....numbers are a lil cheesy I think but roman numerals I thought would look cool. I've never seen it on another guitar either, ever, so that makes it cool too b/c then its not like I got the idea from someone else, another guitar company, etc....They won't come standard with them tho.....but as an option...the customer can get ANY inlay in the world they want....if we can't do it then we'll find soeone who can. I've decided the standard model will have small dots along the top edge of the fretboard, but if someone wants the roman numerals it will of course be available, it will however come standard on the Exotic Series guitars.

We should have them available at the end of January....beginning of Febuary at the latest

Some examples of the Sims Custom Shop Double Cutaway

(Virtual images, these are the same images that were used in the CNC program so they'll be idential to this.)

Flat-Top Beveled Edge

(Also the Quilt Top and the Flame Top are pictures I took of the Billets of Quilt and Flame that will be on the actual guitars, I uploaded them on photoshop, put them on the guitar then painted them in photoshop. This is the quality wood that will be on them and the billets we currently have of quilt and flame as seen in the photoshop pics are thick enough to do about 12 guitar tops each. )

Heres the billets

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

heck out the website for more examples, options, specs, prices, etc...

By the way the Double Cutaway and the Single Cutaway are also available in 7 string and 8 string versions.

The Retros will be also available as a Hollow body and a Semi-Hollow body and will be available with a Bigsby tremelo for the Vintage guys or a hardtail like above.

Thanks for looking!!

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Yep, Double Cuts, Single Cuts, Retros, and theres Three more Designs still being worked on.....and thats a Wicked Death Metal style guitar, an acoustic with a single cutaway, and a few basses. The acoustic and basses probably won't be available until mid year, the death metal guitar will probably be finished up within 1 to 2 months.

Then I should have at least one design for every genre.....

Double Cutaways - Rock guys, Ibanez guys, Classic Rock, and others etc..

Single Cutaways - A little more tamed down - Still Rock looking, but could also be liked by Country players who like a tele shape, Les Paul lovers, etc...

Retros - Classic Rock, Vintage Nostaligic guitar lovers, Country, punk maybe? Surf music guys, jazz maybe? The shape and options just look like they would appeal to those type of people.....I couldn't see someone like ZakK Wylde playing one for example but I could see someone like Eric Clapton playing it....certain guitars just match a style of music better than others

Then the Death Metal Design which I'm still working on for the hardcore metal like Gorgoroth, Slayer, Deicde, Obituary, etc.....I will say this, it will be a flat top, and will have VERY sharp edges, and will have a 45 degree bevel all the way around. The rest you'll just have to wait and see.

So that should have every style of music covered and something appealing to everyone.

An acoustic Design is also in the works, which will have a lower cutaway as well. That design won't be completed and available until probably mid-year. Then we'll have all the guitar designs completed and we'll get started on getting some designs going for Basses, which we already have quite a few ideas on......4 string all the way up to 9 string. So thats alot of stuff that will be going on and happening here this year,....We've been designing the guitars and tweaking them for the last 5 months. The acoustic and Basses will probably take equally as long.

Many things were considered in the guitar designs, and will be considered as well on the acoustics and basses. Many things such as shape, thickness in the center, thickness at the edge, scale lengths, woods, neck pocket dimensions, neck angle, fit & finish, options available, weight, balance, tummy cut shape & countour, electronics cavity shape & size, versions, pricing (I wanted a top quality guitar at a reasonable affordable price) so we had to think long and hard on how to make a high end quality guitar that would rival those in the $4,000 + price range at around half the price.....is it possible? We think so. Many of those guitars bring those prices b/c of the name, but I can personally say that I know of several high end guitar companies who have $4,000 + price tags who actually only have around $1,000 invested in them. I'm not a greedy person....I'm perfectly content with 50% to 100% profit.....but 400%, 500% & 600% + profit is just gouging I think. I actually wouldn't even feel right moraly doing that.

At any rate we wanted to make a top notch guitar with excellent fit & finish (CNC'd for tight tolerances, exactness and consistecy), great playability, aweomse tone, cool shapes, designs that would appeal to the majority of guitar players, at a reasonable price.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

For your viewing pleasure heres a few pics of the CAD drawings that went into this guitar....as you will see its a pretty complex design with probably over a 100+ hours in time put into the CAD program for our guitars. This won't be made in some guys garage....in our opinion the fit and finish couldn't be better.......are there guitar companies that have AS GOOD of a fit finish? Yes I know there is.....are there guitar companies that have a BETTER fit and finish? I find it hard to see how it would be possible. I mean we got down to 1/1000ths + on EVERYTHING......I was very very picky on exactly how it needed to be and put great thought into everything. From the volume & tone knob placements and making sure they would be easily accessible and out of the way of trem arms on dive bombs, neck cavity dimensions, angles, depths, etc ALSO alot of time was put into getting the neck heel shaped JUST RIGHT so it would feel so smooth to the hand on high frets yet give alot of support for the neck (Which it will be a set neck neck by the way), carved top depth, length, width, contour, string ferrules on the body placements, to the thickness, width, length of the body, to the degrees of arch in the cutaways (Perfect shaped cutaways I think) (notice how far the lower cutaway comes back too....access to the 24th fret no problem ....I think the lower cutaway actually comes in at around the 23rd fret, close enough, any further and we were having clearance problems with the arches getting too close to the neck pickup cavity) There wasn't one inch of this guitar design that hasn't been gone over 7 or 8 times to make sure it was perfect, or as close as we could get. I had a dream and a vision for these guitar designs, they were in my head, and it took nearly 5 months to get it into a CAD drawing exactly how I invisioned it....but I am very pleased with the results, and I think the people receiving them will be as well and see the time and attention to detail that has went into the guitars when they see them, and play them. If sells are good on it this year (which its going to take a while to get the name out there) then I will be planning on attending NAMM next year.

Keep in mind this is just one CAD drawing for one guitar, we also had to do the flat tops, beveled edge models, rounded edge models, the Retro and the Death Metal guitar.

Enjoy.

Wow!

Those singlecuts look amazing. The quality of wood for the top looks amazing. Almost like you could dive into it.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Yea, its pretty much the best money can buy.

Once again that is a real piece of wood that I have and will be on the 1st 12 quilt tops. I took a picture of it then uploaded it and put it on the guitars in photoshop. That wood represents the quality of wood our guitars will have. Right now I have enough to do 12 of those identical quilt tops from one billet, 12 flame tops, enough spalted flame maple to do 6, and some serious flame redwood.

Heres a pic of some more Quilt we have....

^^Most people would probably charge around $1000 for that top.....
