Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Is it just me or is that beautiful guitar spoiled a little by the fact that the pickup ring for the neck pickup seems to hang over the cutaway?

Patrick is this a design flaw or a quirk of this particular instrument - or did I read somewhere you anticipated that the pickups would be direct mounted?

It's nice the fretboard inlay looks a little rough but good job.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Inlay looks rough?!? Ummm, what are you smoking?. The Inlay was perfect...it was all done on a CNC, the fretboard was CNC'd, & the inlay was CNC'd,...so perfect that their wasn't even any gap filler used. You have to remember that the inlay was Chrome, so you are seeing some reflections in it. I can give you the owners e-mail address if you like and let him tell you the same thing.

As for the pickup ring slightly hanging over the edge, one of the guys who works for me sanded the inside of the cutaway too much with the spindle sander....its suppose to come close to the edge, so there isn't much tolerance there, but not overhang. Anyways I notified the customer of the situation and asked him if he wanted to direct mount, he said he didn't mind the way it looked and wanted it with the pickup rings. It only over-hung a hair, it actually wasn't even really that noticeable.....needless to say tho I was pretty upset about it, but what can you do, hopefully a lesson was learned.

The profile on the neck was to '57 Les Paul specs (which is what he wanted)....5A Quilt Top w/ Grain enhancment, String-Thru Body design, Ebony Fretboard, 25.5" scale, Mahogany back and 3 piece Mahogany neck, Burstbucker Pro pickups, locking sperzels, Locking Tone Pros bridge, etc...

Lovely job Patrick. I hope the band name doesn't change.....

People complain about waiting for something that looks like that? I'm sure they keep the drive-thru windows busy as well. If it's worth having ........

....... it's worth waiting for.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

Exactly. I doubt the band name will change tho....especially since the lead singer has it tatooed on him. They opened for Adema & Drowning Pool last weekend, and Days of the New a few months back. Their definitely getting heard, plus their played regularly on the radio in 5 states. I really think the band has got what it takes to make it big, their just looking for their big break, some bands who are awesome never get it, some bands who are terrible do, so you just never know, but if they did make it big it wouldn't suprise me one bit.

Hypothetical question - you're about to order a guitar - with your ULTIMATE paint job - how long are you willing to wait? A year, two? For a guitar you'd have for the next 30 years? Suck it up, or send it to the kid around the corner that just bought an airbrush and some auto paint. Just my opinion.
I dont think the problem has ever been wait times. Lots of people are willing to wait but when you tell them enthusiastically that their body will be back and beautiful in 4-6 weeks they get a little confused when they still have no body and 1 in 20 emails gets an answer 8 months down the road. I have been told twice that my body is shipping at the end of the week. I was told I would have the body back for a tour. I had to buy another guitar because that never happened.

None of the negative posts in this thread would have ever happened if the initial contact had gone something like this:

"Im happy to paint your guitar but I want to let you know ahead of time that it might not be a speedy process. I work really hard and I do everything I can to put out the best product possible but I have a lot of orders to fill so there will be some wait time. I might not answer all your emails right away but rest assured Ill get your body back to you looking just like you want it."

Instead of that polite statement a lot of people had great contact during spec'ing and were received with eager requests to send bodies and money but then were cut off from nearly all contact. Its a shame but we all seem to put up with it because the end result is allegedly worth it. Its not that the work isn't great, its that we were told 6 weeks and then after 6 months the work is still a long way from delivery.

NITEFLY, this maybe true if we lived in a perfect world. But if your going to go to a custom shop and order a custom guitar its pretty much a given that you own more than just one guitar to play. My suggestion would be to get 5 or 6 guitars under your belt first before you get a custom job done. Otherwise you'll just be dissapointed cause most people don't realize whats involved in the process of building and painting a guitar, they just want what they want on their schedule done yesterday, know what I mean?

As far as this statement goes "the end result is allegedly worth it", WTF? If you can't see from the work SCS has done that SCS is indeed amazing then you should not have sent your project out to SCS in the first place maybe?

Lets get some positive posts in here people, this subject has been scrutinized to death through this entire thread, this type of posting is redundant. Theres alot of people in here who are waiting patiently for their projects without any doubts about the quality of work being done such as myself, posts like this just cast more doubt on the topic for others and cause more un-needed emails getting sent to Patrick (SCS) causing longer delays in "all" of our projects!

BE COOL MAN! Try looking at the positive side of things, it takes less energy. A moderator should step in and say something here IMO.

This sums up the whole music industry perfectly.

And thanks for the feedback Patrick, I was very curious and wondered if there was background on it

1st of all I don't even know who you are, so I guess your a "pretend" customer. Secondly I NEVER tell ANYBODY 4-6 weeks to paint a guitar.... Thirdly if your not a customer of mine then you really don't even need to be participating in the conversation as if you have a say in the matter. And fourthly I've never had someone's guitar who was going on tour with it, and told me, and not got it done.

Non-Customer members don't need to engage in our turnaround time conversations when their not even waiting on anything. If I am wrong and we do have a guitar from you please correct me, but I just checked and we don't have anybodys guitar from College Park.

I think AntonZed summed it up pretty well. If you don't feel the same then feel free to send it to one of many other custom painters.

Re: Sims Custom Shop (Chattanooga, USA) MASTER TOPIC

I'd like to add a word on this. It probably belongs in PM but i don't have time for that and i think it's more effective if others read.

Non-customer or not I believe any vendor can benefit from legitimate feedback if viewed with an open mind and defense mechanisms down. A suggestion is not a personal attack. That also assumes the feedback makes reasonable sense to the average person.

Generally speaking what i have WITHOUT EXCEPTION is that custom shop vendors all run into this same problem and it's all SELF INDUCED AND WORSE what is PERCEIVED AS POOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS (post payment) only adds fuel to the fire.

EVEN IF THESE CUSTOMERS HAVE THE MOST UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS ON EARTH.

Patrick accusing somone of being a "pretend" customer will never be to your benefit, unless it is documented fact. Even then you should say

"although you are not a customer and some of what you say is inaccurate, i will take this under advisement". (even if you never give it second thought that is your public stance).

CUSTOMERS need to be REALISTIC (you're not getting a custom axe in even 6 months get a grip)

VENDORS (all of them) need to SPELL THIS OUT so a kindergartener could read it

HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

In all seriousness, beautiful work as usual. You never cease to amaze me with the quality of your product. Happy Holidays P-Money.
