so at auction whose......

what guitar players main guitar would sell for the most at auction, dont use any of the dead guys guitars because they have all pretty much been sold i mean people who are alive and have had amazing careers, i think it would be yngwie just because the guitars he plays are worth a small fortune anyways plus the fact they are his pretty much sky rockets the value, your opinion?

Jimmy Page, his '59 Paul. What could compete? Even if you could afford the price tag on a 59, you'd need Bill Gates to loan ya the $$$ for Page's axe.

It's gotta be Eric Clapton. In his book _Clapton's Guitar: Watching Wayne Henderson Build the Perfect Instrument_, Allen St. John tells the story of a man who paid $100,000 for a guitar that Clapton didn't even own . . . only played it and said he liked it.

Page's Les Paul or Paul's Hofner bass. One or the other I would think. Paul even mentioned Page's Les Paul in the song "Rock Show"

What's that man moving 'cross the stage?
It looks a lot like the one used by Jimmy Page,
It's like a relic from a different age, could be... "

Paul McCartney...He's a living Beatle, who played/plays quite a bit of guitar... Easily gets my vote for most expensive guitar.

Top 4 valuable guitars in my opinion:

1. Page's Les Paul
2. Hendrix's Strat
3. Clapton's Blackie
4. Billy Gibbons Pearly Gates (Personally I'd rather have this than Clapton's or Hendrix's)

Brian May's homemade Red Special would probably fetch a decent price.

Van Halen's Frankenstein. Probably the most easily identifiable and most famous guitar in Rock and Roll.
