Stupid Paypal Question

Hey! how are you all doimg?

I have a very basic/stupid paypal question: I searched the forum and read a thousand horror stories about Paypal, but I didn't read a clear response to my doubt.

Here's the deal: I want to get an account to buy cd's, maybe pickups, small stuff like that. Is the worst case scenario that I lose the money I paid (ie. I buy a CD for $10, they con me and I lose the $10 plus shipping), or may I get scammed big time, finding a $1.000 charge or something?

Thanks!!!

Re: Stupid Paypal Question

I think your covered for up to $1000 if you are buying from a verified seller. But I've also heard some horror stories, so I couldn't say for sure.

Anyways, here's what they say!

Re: Stupid Paypal Question

Since you are the one who pays by paypal, you would *pay* the $10 for the CD, the seller has no capability to make a $10 charge a $1,000 charge. As long as you accidentally don't key in $1,000 that is. Paypal is actually pretty safe, it's the evilbay scammers that you have to watch out for. But, as you mentioned, if you are buying only small stuff, it's no problemo.

I actually got a refund via paypal from a scammer so it actually offers you protection compared to paying via personal check or money order.

Re: Stupid Paypal Question

The most important thing, to me anyway, is to go to your bank and open up a second checking account JUST FOR PAYPAL. Only keep enough money in it for Paypal stuff. Most banks will set you up on the Internet so you can move money in and out from home anyway, so once you're setup it's little bother. Just don't use your main checking account!

Re: Stupid Paypal Question

Try to fund your paypal payments with your credit card that way you could always rely on their coverage against online fraud which in many instances is better than the one you have with your checking account.

Re: Stupid Paypal Question

Read the fine print in the paypal agreement....Paypal only covers certain **** transactions. Seller needs to have certain feedback, be in certain countries, be a premier or business paypal account, etc...... so you could be out everything you paid but no more than that.

If you're in Chile, I wouldn't sell to you especially if card funded. Seller protection only applies when selling to US, Canadian or UK paypal users.
