There are good people out there

Going through my Strat phase again, I was bidding on 60's neck on that auction site last night. You know the drill: in that last minute you're hitting F5 over and over until smoke starts coming from your keyboard!

30 seconds to go and someone outbids me. Not to worry. I have fast internet. I counter the bid and regain the lead.

F5, F5, F5, etc.

6 seconds out and he tops me again! Fast internet or not, 6 seconds (minus my reaction time) was not long enough to beat this guy.

So he wins the neck. I'm disappointed, as I'd just won the matching body which, without the neck, is fairly useless to me. So I emailed the guy. Maybe he'd be interested in the body. Nope, he just scored a body, but thanks anyway. So then I asked if under the circumstances he might want to sell the neck to me at a modest profit. To my amazement, he contacted the seller and asked them to sell it to me instead of him!

I asked for the guy's PayPal address so that I could at least give him enough for a case of beer, but this was his response:
"Hey Damien,
No prob. You don't have to do that. Just trying to help out a fellow guitar
player in need. I bet you thought there wasn't any good people left in the
world. Haha. Just vote for me when I run for president.
Take care,
Bxxxx"
I've got to be honest. I really don't know that I would've given someone in my position the time of day if the tables were turned. It's humbling to (re)discover the kindness of strangers.

Good story, and a good score!

I've been in a few of those final minute bidding wars myself...sometimes it gets pretty gnarly.

Post a pic when you get it together~

I just thought it'd be nice to share a positive experience for a change!

Also, I figure this is the best way to pay the guy back - to possibly inspire some more people to perform random acts of kindness.

Way cool..... We sure all need to act like that. They say you get back what you give by ten fold. Food for thought yes?......

Re: There are good people out there

I will share a similar story..

For my custom S im building I needed black hardware instead of cosmo.. Well I got the trem of evilbay, but I needed a nut and tuners, and string tree..

So I posted here WTB black locking nut.. And then I get a PM from Ayrton saying he has the black nut.. I tell him what im doing.. And what shows up at my door, Black tuners, locking nut and string tree..

He never asked for anything and wouldnt let me pay for it.. I was in awe to say the least..

Shows you good people still exist and its not always about money..

Awesome story by the way..
