Well, I got the shaft from a Jemsiter.

I guess I'm just venting because he obviously won't make good on his trade, but here's the thread:

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35010

It generated a lot of attention, 2 sanded old style RG's for a good clean AANJ RG. You know I finally felt like I was first to a good classified thread. I'm always late in the game when good deals come around. I e-mailed him, and then I thought "I should put a post in the thread to sort of "claim my position" you know? I know there's no "first come first served" rule, but the thing is, he made a solid deal over the phone with me. The next day, he had some reservations, probably because the thread got some more attention, and he had some other offers come in. But then he confirmed the deal with me, and I told him I'd try to get him the pickup he wanted, and I'd wire the guitar up the way he liked. It seemed fine, and then he closed the thread with a "Guitars are sold. Thanks Frank!!"

So then guess what? The next day when he was supposed to ship, he backed out. But guess what else? I had already made arrangements to get his pickup, I already wired the guitar the way he wanted, AND I already made arrangements to sell one of the pickups in there that I didn't need! All for nothing. Not to mention I lost the $40 from the pickup sale. Which was partly how I was getting the pickup he wanted, that I don't need!

Since then, he won't contact me or answer any e-mails or calls. (5 days) And he's not out of town because he's been here daily since. His flake out e-mail didn't even have an appology for the inconvenience or anything. I think that's what's making me so miffed. If he had appologized profusely and said he got an offer he "couldn't refuse" I'd at least have closure. That's what makes me upset with him personally I guess rather than just mad I didn't get two cool project RGs. Man, I was going to do a "Root Beer Jem" with one of them.

Anyway I just thought I'd let you know that even a committed deal and a closed thread doesn't mean anything with this guy, and I guess it doesn't pay to be first either.

That sucks.

I'm relatively new here, so maybe it's not my place to say this, but I'm really uncomfortable with a lot of the posts from newbies who obviously made an account just so they can post in the classifieds. Over on the Jackson forum, they have a minimum of 100 posts to even see the classifieds. I found that annoying at first, but now I think it has merit.

Of course, it's more work for the admins, because they have to delete / ban people who are obviously post count farming. And there's no guarantee that the outcome would have been different in this case.

Hey, are you selling your RG?

That totally sucks. At least you were able to give him a negative trader rating. Hopefully the system will weed him out. That is, unless he comes back with another username...

Re: Well, I got the shaft from a Jemsiter.

Yeah moro, that's why I think I was more likely to get the shaft. And I don't want to say that isn't okay, because a lot of people hang around and read everything but only post in the classifieds. Kind of like listening to talk radio but never calling in. It's understandable.

I'm not sure about selling the RG by the way, I'd need another one to replace it (or 2 stripped ones...oh wait I already lost that deal!)

And yes, the new trader ratings are nice, too.

What sort of pickup are you "burned in with"? Maybe one could help you out of it, just to be friendly.

Re: Well, I got the shaft from a Jemsiter.

Sorry to hear about that, I had an experience quite a while back on the classifieds here, which left me very disappointed. Someone was selling their 7 string and I pretty much got in there first, I sent a cheque to him then he sent it back and claimed his main guitar needs to be repaired urgently, so he will have to keep the one he was intending to sell. I said to him I didn't mind waiting for him to have his guitar repaired, but he replied "it would take a very long time", chances are he probably got a better offer, as it was a great price considering the guitar was in mint condition, if I can recall correctly. Anyway he was very apologetic so I gave him the benefit of the doubt, heh.

i've considered "x posts" or "registered 30 days" to participate in classifieds, but they're all easily overpowered by greed and inconsideration imho. this guy had one sale and + feedback as a seller. i'll consider other options ... glen

That's not good Frank.

I know exactly what you're saying about the guy not answering your e-mails too. I've been in similar situations on 'the auction site'. Like you said,if they would at least be up-front about it and get in touch it wouldn't be quite so bad, but people like that haven't got the balls to be straight with people.

Very SAD guy indeed! At least he's been 'named and shamed' anyway. He'll be the loser in the long-run.

Re: Well, I got the shaft from a Jemsiter.

Wow, sorry Frank. I wanted those two too, but I was happy you were the guy who "ended up" with them. And for those who don't know, Frank is as straight up a guy as you could possibly hope for, and has hooked me up big-time in the past.

The way they do it on the Jackson forum isn't really a good way to do it, IMO. You can't even see the classifieds over there until you have 100 posts. You could see the classifieds there until recently, but newbies would PM sellers and offer to buy so they killed even seeing the forum. I don't know, maybe that's the way to go but it seems unfortunate.

But again, I'm sorry about you getting burned on this deal Frank. It's like the old saying, 'it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy'.

Re: Well, I got the shaft from a Jemsiter.

Actually ESPEXPLORER351D, since that was me, let me respond.

As stated in my email after my main 7 was damaged, I would have to use the guitar I was selling as my gig guitar for a few months, and since I was selling said guitar "as new" there is a pretty good chance after about 2 months of getting humped at the end of "voodoo Chile" it would no longer be "as new" & I didn't feel comfortable selling it like that or in return taking less $$.
I opted at that time reluctantly to just hold onto the guitar, not because I had a better offer, but because it was my only functioning 7 string.

The guitar in question remained in my possession until about 3 weeks ago BTW..
