What about this 3bay body seller?

Bodies made of poplar, no clearcoat. $80. Worth it or not? The pics look quite nice, but is the reality something different?

Poplar is quite a turn-off, I guess. Haven't any experience myself, though.

Lots of Jacksons were made of poplar, so I guess like anything else it comes down to matching your pickups to the wood or just throwing in EMGs.

I bought a body from nate. Besides loads of runs on the swirl, the body wasn't exact to the specs of a jem body...

I sold it fast. A quote from Herc Fede:

Great swirls aren't cheap and cheap swirls aren't great.

Herc is right. You pay for what you get.

Though a good clear coat does matter but a good clear can't save a bad swirl job or poor body specs. Just my humble opinion.

C'mon most of herc's swirls are freaking terrible they'll never come even close to an ATD!

Here's an honest opinion from someone who knows Nate in person and has had a lot of work done: When he puts his heart in it, he is very very good almost as good as Darren. As far as the craftdmanship of the bodies I can tell you it's good but fitting and alterations might be required, it's not perfect but Ibanez original parts should fit without any major modification. Just like any other wood material, Poplar actually sounds great if you choose the right pickups for it.

Nope thats just your opinion. There are lots of people that love Herc's work. Not all of Darren's and Herc's work were all 100 percent mind blowing. They both done mind blowing work to decent work.

Why would Herc want to do anything that would resemble ATD? Herc has his own style it's obvious he wanted to do his own thing.

Herc's work will always be Herc and Darren will always be Darren. Thats like saying Steve Vai will never be Eddie Van Halen or vice versa of course they're not going to be anything alike.
They are totally 2 different players with distinctive styles the same applies to Herc and Darren. Both have done great work along with having distinctive swirling styles.

Some of these new swirlers are finally doing their own thing. Some have a more clean approach other have mix of clean and organic.

As for Perle I like his work he is on his way.

Nah! you don't know what you're talking about!!! How the heck can you even put herc in the same league as Darren...?!? Unlike many of herc's swirls "ANY" ATD will bring big money. herc is and always will be a cheap copy of the original ATD. No discerning collector or Ibanez enthusiast would ever take a herc swirl over an ATD if given the choice...
Made my case, argument closed!

Actually, i would take a good Herc fede swirl anyday over a bad ATD one. And i am a huge ATD fan!

Just because Darren started it all, swirled the original Ibanez MC guitars and those guitars are therefore more collectable, doesn't mean Herc does a bad job...

No offence Olie, but you are stretching it a bit

Re: What about this 3bay body seller?

Everyone is allowed their own opinions here.

FACT: ATD wrote the book on Ibanez swirls.
FACT: Fede swirls have been very popular worldwide for some time and some folks prefer them.

There are excellent examples from both out there.
