I know!

Yeah, I know!! I totally dug that MKR!!! The guy took some killer pictures of it. Those colors were just vibrant, but not harsh. I couldn't believe it actually sold for more than that ATD with the "cool marbling effect" on it. I'm definitely hanging onto my MKR. That's two in the past 4 months (including Rich's that sold for $2250 in July) that have sold for over 2 grand!! Not bad.

There's a fool born every minute

Of course, it's in the UK where MC's tend to bring a bit more due to scarcity. Somebody apparently had a few pounds burning a hole in their pocket.

It was in Germany being marketed to the UK, and all you have to do is end the auction a couple times until it gets the results you want

I know

I know all about **** and how things go. However, I think it is a stretch to say that either the guy who bought the MKR on **** or the guy who bought Rich's MKR was a fool.

Maybe, just maybe, the guitar was a superb instrument and there was a buyer who was willing to pay that much for a product that they desired greatly. I once traded Rich an $1800 guitar for a $1400 guitar. That doesn't make me a fool and I don't think Rich would call me one (I hope!). I just wanted the guitar that Rich had and didn't care for the one I traded him anymore. Worked out for him. Worked out for me.

These MKR sales are only 2 isolated cases. If a 3rd crops up, then we can call it a pattern with the possibility of a trend........

I suppose if you're willing to pay above and beyond normal market value, more power to you. I'm too much of a shopper to throw away the extra cash in "impulse" situations. To each their own though...a swirl is a swirl, therefore preference is certainly 99% of the appeal.

Realistically, any guitar is only worth what you can get out of it when you try to sell it further on down the road But, if somebody is into throwing money away and can afford to do so, so be it.

Good call

I couldn't agree more, Chris. I've seen some really nasty MKRs that I wouldn't even want to be in the same room with. I've even seen some people's "really cool" ATD swirls that I thought were really nasty. One of my friends said my guitar was the ugliest thing he'd ever seen!! I think it is practically the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Who's to say???

hmmm

Well, I was agreeing to the 99% of appeal, not to throwing money away. Some people might say paying for an education is throwing money away. I couldn't disagree strongly enough. Just my opinion though.

There's no comparison to an education. A guitar is a tangible, physical thing with a value that is more of a "fact". The "value" of an education depends strictly on the individual, whereas a guitar's value will remain the same regardless of whether or not I own it, you own it, or Joe Blow owns it (unless of somebody like Mr. Vai has owned it...then it's naturally worth more!)

You can throw $30K into an education, but it's only value lies in whether or not YOU put it to good use.

$30k?? Was that for one year?!?!? lol You mean the guy who majored in "Ancient Dead Languages" or "Constructive ways to re-use "used paint"" wont get his money's worth out of a degree?!?! lol No I get what you are saying though. My day job is working for the welfare department so I see PLENTY of college graduates each day that aren't using their degree to its fullest. Of course I live in a stae that is 2nd in the nation for its high unemployment rate. We have people fighting over fast food jobs around here!!

hmmm...

Well, I wasn't comparing owning a guitar to an education as if there were any direct correlation. It was a metaphor. Next time I will use a more obtuse one. A UV swirl is like the cool, autumn breeze, pilfering quietly down the mountain.... However, one can see with the market being so soft, guitars aren't worth the same as they were a year ago. I see a vwh for sale on jemsite for $900. $900?????? wish I had $900........

So, now we are back to the worth of a guitar being up to the current market value vs. the value placed upon it by the prospective buyer, and I suppose also whether or not he/she puts it to good use or just hangs it on the wall!!!! LOL!!

Anybody catch Ross's MKR that sold for almost $2500 last month?

And, who's to say that ATD was worth the $2200, after all it took a month of **** trips to sell. Another fool?

Yeah? Did you sell the RG-Gold yet?

It's "to each his own" period.

I did the same with a mint FP trade for a JC with Rich that wound up $350 to Rich's favor but it was the best deal I ever made!

Anything is worth whatever it's worth to anyone willing to buy it.

I don't view it as "fools" throwing money away.

Ya know, every now and then I actually make something close to what could be considered a "real" profit margin, unfortunately not often enough!

Jason, you're not talking about the miserable dog JS7Harpers are you?!

You have to try to make a profit! - it's your job!

For me it's a hobby - big difference! And if you've got what someone wants and they have the means to get it, well... I don't see people slowing down on your site! They go to you because you've got something they want and they'll pay for the guitar and the service you provide - not because they're fools.

I'm glad you do what you do and would hate to see it end, I'll tell you that.
