in short yeah it would work, but it may not be the best.
I've found it's best to put delay at/near the very end of your effects loop if you'r looking for a more natural sound; it could sound somewhat artificial otherwise.
I've found that on a really gainy channel, however, this particular arrangement causes (on my particular amp) a drop in distortion on the delayed material rather than volume. this will depend on whether you have a 'gain' box or a 'distortion' box; i wouldn't reccomend it with the latter,
