Re: $20-40 attenuator???

Am I right in thinking that normal attenuators like the hotplate go after power out?

If this is the case, the difference is that this attenuator only allows you to drive preamp tubes, as it's in the effects loop, whereas other attenuators go after the power stage, so you drive those tubes which is the sound people are usually after.

Answering my own question after a bit of research, yes a hotplate goes after power out.

Re: $20-40 attenuator???

that thing goes in the pre-power amp loop to attenuate the pre amp signal.
it emulates the insert loop fitted to some laeys, it will lower the volume because not all of the pre amp signal is reaching the power stage..

its not a power soak, but it is an attenuator of sorts..

not worth it, if you want an attenuator, buy a proper one.

Re: $20-40 attenuator???

That is NOT an attenuator.....just a potentiometer in a box.....probably not a very good pot as well!

Don't waste your money. You could make it yourself for next to nothing.
