450-550 Tube Combo Reccomendations

Hi, i have a birthday coming up and i was looking at getting myself a new tube combo.

The Carvin Nomad struck me with it's vintage looks and Celestion V30 speakers.

Any opinions on this amp? Any others i need to know about. I prefer celestion speakers and definitely want a tube amp.

Peavey Classic 30 (1x12) or Classic 50 (2x12). Check your local Peavey dealer for close-out deals on last years models. They upgraded the cosmetics for summer NAMM, but the older models have a much better (IMHO) appearance.

Hmmmmmmmm i also have an old marshall i am thinking about restoring. It needs a couple of pots replaced but i have no idea what kind to get. It is a Marshall Master Lead Combo. I might just get it fixed up.

Fixer-uper's always save money, and eliminate the hard decision of "which combo". I'd fix up the Marshall too!

Re: 450-550 Tube Combo Reccomendations

Well i am at a bit of a delima. It has 4 solid shaft pots that work fine. Then it has one split shaft pot that also works but i doubt is factory (bass pot). And then the master volume is a solid pot with a little flat spot on one side. The nut is stuck on the inside of the amp which means the pot can be pushed in. What should i do to get this amp back to factory? Any amp gurus? I have no idea which pots are factory. :-(

Any good tech should be able to jump in there and replace the pots in just a few minutes, real quick.

If it's 10+ years or older, have the tech replace the filter caps as well as the defective pots. New caps will breathe new life and sparkle into your old Marshall. A new set of JJ EL34 power tubes would't hurt either.

Check out the Peavey Valve King, all tube, I think the combo is right around $400.
