5 PreAmp sounds recorded....

OK, I hate to subject anyone to my playing, or even worse in this case
my random playing through 5 (secret) preamps that are not quite
miked very well.

SO LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Ok, here is the deal. I've got about 5 different sounds available to me
right now. Actually, I could double that if I brought in a different power
amp, but I'm attempting to keep this somewhat simple.

All 5 preamps are run through the same power amp, from the same
guitar, and the cab and mics are in another room.

I'm sorry my cab miking didn't come out as well as my other recordings.
I was kind of frusterated with that. For some reason moving the cabs
and mics into the other room, I can't seem to capture the sound I had
before. I'll have to move the cabs and mics around a bit more when I
have a chance and see if I can get something a little bit nicer.

Anywho, if you still dare after reading all that, feel free to download this
3.11MB file and listen to the 5 undisclosed preamps, and tell me which
one you like the best. The "playing" is just some random noodling so
nothing special there. Please respond with which Pre you liked the best
#1, #2, #3, #4, or #5

I apprecaite your time with this!
And I would be more then happy to return the favor should anyone want
an extra set of ears...

#1 Seems to be on the grunge end of the spectrum and still delivers
a good harmonic punch.
#4 is clean and mellow without the low end grunge sound.
These 2 are I like the best, but I alwayz say-it depends on wher you place your sound in the mix
You do have me wondering on what preamps you used tho.....

WOW, OME, you have a HELL of an ear!

I wonder what you could detect if I could figure out how to Mic the cab
like I had it before...

I'll give this post a few hours to ride before I post the results.
I really do appreciate the help guys.

#1 has the most bite...seems to grab you the most.
#2 sounds a bit more middy...could sounds more like #1 with more treble?
#3 fatter, thicker yet (reminds me of an ADA)
#4 darker than the rest (also ADAish)
#5 they're starting to run together in my mind

All sound pretty good...awaiting the unveiling.

Didn't really like anyone of them, but #1 was least bad :)

#2's icky muddiness sounds very much like Line6...but I won't say I'm sure it's a POD, because me ain't so sure yo.

I'm curious as to what these all are. Also, what cab are they going through?

OK, here is the setup.

Preamp 1 is:

Original Blackfaced Rocktron Chameleon through Return on Legacy
head (input loop bypasses ALL control knobs)

Preamp 2 is:

Carvin Legacy head (all knobs set to 7 ala-Vai settings)

PreAmp 3 is:

Early 80's Boss DS-1 through clean channel on Legacy Head
(Treb 7, Mid 7, Bass 4 Ala-Vai Settings)

PreAmp 4 is:

Analog Man Boss DS-1 again clean on Legacy

PreAmp 5 is:

Original "first batch" 1978 Boss DS-1 through clean on Legacy

The guitar was my new (used) Jem VWH all stock, through those cool
armored cables through above mentioned equipment out of my
(soon to be modified) stock Mid-80s Laney cab loaded with stock 70s

The Laney cab is soon to be modded to see what I can get out of it
with stock parts, but better (re)manufacture.

I also have a Legacy 2X12 with Greenbacks to be delivered tomorrow

As well as I'm going to be workin on micing my cabs better. I think the
area I had the cab in my bedroom was too small for the cab to "breath"
and the micing suffered because of early reflections or something. So
I'm going to drag into the room my sound diffusers and also place the
cab along a long open wall and try again.

Hopefully I can clean up and fix all this mess and come out with a better
sound. I do appreciate everyones help with this. You all just proved
that I spent about $1000+ looking for a sound that I already had.
I really love my Chameleon and I think with a good amp and the Legacy
cab I'm expecting tomorrow, I can have MUCH closer to the Tone In My
Head!

How do you figure there is only one PreAmp in this setup?

Are you just saying they *sound* the same, or are you saying that
I'm using the same preamp section somehow?
