6L6's in VH100R

Hey. How do 6L6's sound in the Laney VH100R? I have EL34's in mine and i've heard 6L6's give a very different sound. Is this true?

Re: 6L6's in VH100R

I think I've said enough about this on sevenstring.org to fill a book. LOL

EL34s: More mids, more grit, less headroom, "looser"

6L6s: Less mids, fuller bass, cleaner, more headroom, "tighter"

The main voicing of the amp doesn't really change, it's more of a flavor thing. I definitely prefer the 6L6s though.

Well, it'll still sound a Laney, 'cause it has Laney voicing no matter what the tube. Although, many people do like the 6L6s in Laneys, 'cause they tend to smooth out the upper mid and highs that the Laney is known for. I have EL34Ls in my Laney, but I will try 6L6s when these burn out.

Re: 6L6's in VH100R

I would go for the Winged-C SED 6L6s. The Ruby's aren't bad either.

Recent talk on 7string.org has me wanting a pair of KT77's though.
