7 gauge strings?


Hey guys I was watching the special features on the steve vai astoria dvd and thomas holds up a pack of strings and he says that their 7 gauge! Does anyone know where you can go to get them because Ive played on 8s and wow they were tiny so I wanna try a pack of 7s.

Sevens? Wow. Haven't heard of those before... those must feel like wires. Wouldn't last more than a couple of days!

They were more popular in the 70's than now... I think it was Dean Markley that might have made them... possibly

I know Tony Iommi had a signature set in the 70's that were 7's

Last time I tried them was probably in the early 80's

Thats my idea of guitar purgotry...
my mate uses 8's and they just dont give you any feedback on your fretting or your picking hand - nightmare......

I went through a brief "light guage" string kick, back in the mid 90's when I first started playing. I went as low as 7's once, when I found a D'Addario pack.

They were laughably light - instant Yngwie vibrato, not that I recognized it, in my big Nirvana phase...
