A good guitar cabinet under $275?

Hey gang

Im looking for a cabinet to compliment my tube head, I hated the way the stock cabinet sounded wimpy and small, I need something with a punch and agressive kick, :P...right now im looking for a used amp, as I only have $275 to spend, , should I save up or look for a used 4x12 cabinet? which one would be better for my style? (metal, metal, metal, electro-acoustik)

thanks again,

What kind of cabinet do you have now? If it is a well built cabinet, maybe just upgrading the speakers will do it for you.

A friend of mine uses a Behringer cab. I heard good things about them and they're cheap.

I would personally avoid the Behringer cabinets as they are pretty cheap (and by cheap I mean cheaply made). One of the better cabs that I've played through recently is the one that's made for the B-52 AT100 head. It sells for $400 new so you could probably swing one used for $275-$300.

Oh, but if you're wanting something new then I know you can get one of those Line 6 Mark II cabinets for $300 new. The thing is that it only handles 150 watts whereas the B-52 cabinet for the AT-100 handles like 480 watts which basically means that the clean channel won't break up so easily and the distorted channel with be really tight for some heavy riffing.

Check out avatar cabinets

Maybe save up a little more and get a 2x12 if you're not in that big of a hurry.

Avatar is a good buy. The Carvin cabs are also pretty competitive. What are you looking for in the tone dept?

Re: A good guitar cabinet under $275?

wow, thanks for the replies guys, what im looking for is a amp that can handle heavy distortion and alot of low end, but still have clarity and space for cleans.

I was thinking about the speaker change, but it would be more expensive for me,
and I have no cab anymore, so thats out.

the B-52 sounds good, now I just gotta find a used one. I saw a used ampeg guitar cab with celestions, but its gone now.

ill keep sucking up info, thanks guys

I know someone who has bought the Behringer and he likes it. He's running 200watts into it with no probs at all.

I'd definitely get one of those Avatar cabs before a Behringer cab. The Behringer cabs just sound cheap to me.

You're in San Diego? You're right in Carvin's back yard. A new Carvin 4x12 with Celestions sells for around $350...they have a return department that sells their blemished stuff, scratch & dents, etc for cheep...give them a call.
