A Guitar Center "Twilight Zone" Experience

I've said in previous threads that I haven't ever found anyone employed at GC to have any knowledge or advice that could help me with any decision. I stopped in there the other day and was going to buy a "guitar bug" wireless system for about $300. I tried it in the store .... walking from one end of the store to the other and seemed amazing. I was sold on it. Until, an EMPLOYEE came up to me and said that he had bought the exact same one about a year ago and it apparently over time causes the jack system to wear out.... He told me that he's went through 3 input jacks in less than a year and gave me second thoughts on purchasing one. For now, I'm sticking with Live Wires. At least until I research this more. I really don't need a wireless system, since i stay close to my pedals most of the time. I would like hear about any comments or suggestions on this topic though.

In his case, it was probably because of the wireless "bug" putting weight on the jack and gradually wearing it out over time. From what I've heard you can solve most of it's design flaws by simply taping the bug to the body so it's not putting weight on the jack and can't move around.

Re: A Guitar Center "Twilight Zone" Experience

the bug's transmitter has a lower output than the body pack. i own and have used the body pack version for 3yrs w/out any problems. i keep a battery charger and 4 AA rechargeable batteries (2 on - 2 in body pack) set up so i don't eat batteries like crazy. using two AA batteries is also an advantage over 9 volts since the AA's run down more gradually than a 9 volt that just drops when it reaches its drain point. basically you have warning and won't be shut off in the middle of a song with the AA's.
haven't had any problems with the jacks.
