A must see for jemsiters: Self tuning guitar!

Sorry if its been posted about already, but a company called TransPeformance is making a guitar that has seperate motors on the saddles of the bridge, which can adjust tunings for each string on the fly so that you can maintain different tunings right in the middle of a song. Its pretty fu@king cool guys, check it out. It sounds really good!

You can switch between hundreds of pre-set tunings, allowing you to do things you obviously wouldn't be able to do with a normal guitar.

Bands like Tea Party and Jimmy page are using it, and getting some really freaky sounds.

I suspect some of you may already know about it, but I certainly didn't and I feel like I've been left in the dark.

check out the multimedia section for cool demonstrations. [/quote]

I can't believe this is the first time you are seeing this.
TwoHands31 won't shut up about it and has been dicussed here on jemsite a few times before.

I knew that's what this was about. I knew Page was using one. I saw the Plant/Page version of Kashmir from No Quarter on VH1 Classic a couple of times recently and he's using the Les Paul with that mounted on it.

From a tech standpoint it is a neat idea.
From a player's viewpoint: Just what I need, more friggin buttons.
I can appreciate the device, but I would expect there to be some kind of motor noise (shielding can reduce) but who wants to route that much wood out of a guitar, especially a Jem which has enough tone robbing holes in it already.

yeah, i had a feeling you guys had probably seen it, but I wasn't sure, and i didn't bother doing a search. silly me

Anyway, it definately has draw backs, particularly the fact that tuning changes are slow...but its a really interesting idea....seems like a nice way to use technology to be creative.

The idea of more buttons can be a turnoff tho.

i doubt that you actually use all those buttons, unless you use a whole crapload of tunings. you probably press like 2 buttons normally.

the things i don't like about it is:
way too expensive for right now
slow tuning changes
no floyd style yet
can't really install yourself

if this worked for a floyd-style trem, then i would be interested

Do you really think I wouldn't know about something Jeff Martin of The Tea Party is using? Yea, I know all about this, he uses it to perform "Cathartik" live, the song uses 3 different tunings (verse, chorus, solo).

omg, that's brilliant! The demo video is just great. In the FAQ it says what the buttons are for, it sounds pretty simple.

When's someone going to invent a guitar that has prerecorded songs in it? I'll have the Hendrix plug-in please. I could walk on stage, pretend I'm playing, and leave to rapturous applause. Eventually, the audience would have applause generating machines, and then neither of us would have to turn up.

Fantastic.
