ADA MP-1 preamps

Hey guys. I recently had interest in these pre amps. I've seen them go on **** for a pretty good price and it seems like an attractive alternative to paying for a more expensive amp. What do you guys think of these pre-amps? i have a rough idea of how they sound (nuno bettencourt, vitto bratta and clips from adadepot) but would they be any good for the modern day metal band?

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

Do a search. They're pretty much a favorite around here. I've been trying to find one locally to have modded, but they go quick. Trying to avoid the four-letter-auction site...

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

Well i did a search earlier but none of the threads said anything about using it for 7 string guitars and modern metal (not nu-metal). Those threads were about using it for 80's shred.

I know Stephen Carpenter was using them at one time, don't know if that helps you or not.

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

The rocktrons don't have the same tone as the ADA's.
The Ada was one of my faves, if I had not found a MONSTER deal on my Triaxis, I'd probably STILL be using it.
You run the MP-1 through a good tube power amp, it sounds AWESOME!
Now that the mods are publicized, they, to me are even more desirable, if you can nab one, i'd recommend one immediately! The cost is well within the limits of affordability, the reason they dropped so drastically in price is that the mfr went under and no support was available, now with the advent of user forums and a dedicated group of enthusiasts, the MP series lives on!

Get one, you wont regret it.

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

Well i was thinking of just buying one as they're gonna be harder to find soon (i reckon). But i also found that Alex Skolnick used to put a MP-1 through his JCM900. I'm thinking of doing the same with my JCM900, but i'm not sure if it would sound good to me.

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

The ADA's are great units, read so much great stuff about them. But in terms of modern metal - I dont think they are your best bet to be honest. The ADA is more suited to your 80's Thrash kinda tone - which I am a personal fan of. But if you are after that modern high-gain squel, I would personally look elsewhere.

For a modern tone at @ the same price check out a peavey rockmaster.

I totally agree!!
I have used a MP-1 through Marshall 9200 poweramps and Stereo 4 x 12 Laney cabs (loaded with Greenbacks) since 1994, after hearing Nuno's tone on Pornograffiti.
Pablo Gilberto used one through his early Mr Big years too.

ADA MP1 - An absolutely awesome tube pre-amp!!!!!

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

I love mine. Great for lead tones and 80's type tone. If you're looking for a modern sound you can either look elsewhere or buy tha ADA MP1 and do the MOD3.666 or the one of the other modern sounding mods from adadepot.

It's a great value preamp as you can usually get it for a good price.

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

After using the Digitech Valve FX, 2101 Artist, Rocktron PIRANHA, and Marshall JMP-1, i did my choice: ADA MP-1. (not the Classic).
Better than that, only the TRIAXIS, dude.

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

Apparently the MP-1 is the mother of all ADA products. The MP-2 has more gain but not the same kinda tone as the MP-1. The MP-1 classic has less gain i think.

So i went and bought myself one from **** for £150. Should be here soon.

Re: ADA MP-1 preamps

If you're going to get one of the ADA pre-amps, get the MP1. It's THE preamp to get if you're going the ADA route and it's also got the most mods.
