Ahhh, it not about what amps sounds the best.

That's subjective. Its not about what amp sounds the best. they all sound good. marshalls, laneys, mesa's orange, soldano, etc. instead, its about which amp we play our best on!

I go back and listen to my recordings over the years. they all sound basically the same....they sound like me. what ever amp I have at the time, I end up tweeking it and making it sound like what I need, and it ends up all being pretty much the same. since 'our' tone comes from our hands. the bast amp with the best tone is the amp that favors our hands. that amp will let us play our best, and in that makes us sound our best, therfore having the best tone.

so simple.

so anyone saying an amp has the best tone is missing the whole 'hand' thing.

i've tried to be careful in my reviews and clip posting not to say that an amp sounds best, but to just say what I liked about it and give a general tone opinion about it and let the clip speak for itself.

I agree. It takes a while to find "your" tone. Whether it sounds good or not, you can't hide from your own uniqueness. I tried a lot of Marshall style amps because that was what usually sounds good on records to me, but they didn't work with the way I play. I've finally settled with Mesa Boogie.

Yup I was into boogies for a long, long time. And even though I can't afford anythign now. I find that I really fit better with a brit style gain than the recto sound. I need that presence and highend. Then I feel I play a lot better, since it's more inspiring.

I agree I always say 90% of tone is from your fingers, but the guitar and amps 10% will affect your tone and style greatly.

This is kinda what I've been thinking lately.

I played thru my Mesa and recorded some stuff with my brother and then he ran me direct into his BR1600cd with the built in GT-6 processor. After listening to both recordings, I liked the Mesa better but the differences were actually very subtle but my personal tone still shone thru both.

I think that is valid to say about 90% of your tone comes from your hands but you can also sound like crap if that other 10% sounds like crap

I saw Eric Gales play through a borrowed Chinese Epiphone LP Jr. through a borrowed Peavey XXX (an odd combo for a blues rock guy, to say the least), but you know what? He still sounded like Eric Gales, and he still sounded great!

IMHO the amp is every bit as much an instrument as the guitar.
You're going to dial it in as best you can to get the response you're looking for.
Like Darin said, I too tend to sound the same no matter what gear I'm using, but if it inspires you to use one amp over another, then so be it.
