Amazing multi-effects units?
A few years ago I decided to give multi effects units a try. I bought a Digitech RP2000 when they first came out and I have to say I liked it for a year or two since I was young and didn't know much but now I hate the thing. All the amp models sound so fake and digital and the effects aren't much better. There's a delay too between switching effects.
Are all multi effects under $1500 like this still or are they better now? Cuz I can't afford a G-Force or G System.
Right now I'm currently looking at the G-Major with a
midi controller
, PODxt Live, Boss GT-8, & Digitech GNX3000. Someone told me the GNX3000 has a delay on it, is that true? What do yall think would be the best unit for effects since they're all around the same price? I'm looking for quality of sound and minimal delay. Thanks

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
GT8 all the way. I use a Behringer X V-Amp and it aint bad for amp sounds. GT 8 is definetly the way to go because I hated the POD XT Live. For you, the GT-8 would be about 450 unless you manage to get a used one. I used one of the tubed Zoom pedals and it wasn't bad at all. The wammy effect was pretty damn neat.
The GT-8 currently owns pretty much all other floor multi fx processors out there because of the multitude of FX and everything. Go to
www.bossus.com
and check out the interactive section, then check the second vid. Loads of amps, solo switch for an extra boost. Its a great thing.

I definitely agree (I love mine!) but there is quite a learning curve. It's awesome, but requires some patience.

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
try out the Korg 3000, it's pretty sweet and you can do some really neat things with the real time effects modulation.

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
I picked up the Boss GT-PRO which is basically the GT8 rack mount version similar to
Pod Pro
. It sounds really great but does take a lot of patience to get going with it. The computer editor is excellent. It'll set you back $1100 Canadian. I've used it live plugged directly into the PA and it was awesome.
PS I haven't touched my
Mesa Boogie Triple
Recto since I got this unit.

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
i've got a rp2000 too, and i too find the drives and models below average, they don't have to sound like the models they are based on, but theyre just veri unusable, and that delay in between effects is extremely irritating too
anw i wanna get a zoom g9.2tt, i had a zoom g2, and my biggest regret was selling it off

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
I'm happy with my DigiTech GNX2 (going through my stereo) for practicing. I wouldn't play a gig without a backup unit, though. It's quite robust but not extremely rugged.
The amp and cabinet modelling offers a wide range of useful (and useless) sounds.

That Zoom G92TT Twin Tube sure looks impressive.
IMHO, the Pod and Boss stuff doesn't come close to my Digitech GSP2101...so I suggest you also look at a second hand unit like that (2101, 2112)

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
The problem with some is that they are trying to emulate instead of giving off their own sound. I want something with smooth creamy distortion. Thats why I love the Mesa settings on a few multi fx units. Scoop bass in with mids and you get lots of the good stuff.

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
I picked up a tc electronics G-Major, running it throught the effects loop of the Carvin V-3, $399.00 brand new, it is transparent as far as not messing up the tone of the amp, for the money you can't go wrong. I have a Behringer FCB1010 that controls it quite niceley, I have heard other horror stories of people having problems with this set-up, but have not had any problems with it myself. Takes a little patience and,you will be ready to rock and roll!

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
Generally, people will tell you to get what they have, no matter how much comparing they did when they got it. I like my new Tonelab, but the FX are pretty basic and the
high gain amp
sounds aren't supposed to match those from the PODxt or Digitech GNX3000. No matter to me - I don't do nu-metal or thrash - but it might to you.
The few online comparisons I've seen where the guys actually own several modelers have put the GNX3000 at the top of the list, so I'd say that's one well worth checking out.

Re: Amazing multi-effects units?
I heard good things about the Rocktron Intelliflex (now Expression) and they can be had pretty cheap, so you might want to consider that...
