American amps in australia?

Hi im thinking of buying american amps from america like a mesa rectifier and import it due to the amazing dollar in aus at the moment.

does anyone know what needs to be done to make the amp work to the corect power supply in aus?

Re: American amps in australia?

You have two basic choices - a step down transformer, or replacing the original 110V mains transformer with a 240V mains transformer - there are certainly techs who will do the latter (which is infinitely preferable to lugging around a step down rig which might weigh several kilos!), I just can't remember who! If you are in Sydney, try Peach Audio in Coogee. I entertained the notion of buying a Road King head off a fellow Jemsiter - postage charge - minimum, $500US, the transformer change may cost you almost the same, so check your extraneous costs before you start plunking down dollars!

Re: American amps in australia?

thanks for the reply, im in melbourne and i think id prefer to have the mains transformer swapped if cost was low enough.

i think that i can get a triple rectifier in the country for maybe $1700aus, and the dollar is said to rise even more and eventually break even with the US making it even cheaper. consider triple rectifiers go for 5 kupwards here
