Amp for beginner who has a budget for £50
Hey,
I teach a kid who's amp has just packed up and is in need of a new one. I was speaking to his parent's and they kinda said they have around £50 to spend. So I'm wondering if you have any suggestions. I was thinking about a
Roland Cube
15 or the microcube.

Get a modelling amp, maybe a second hand one if they only have fifty quid, the different sounds and amps along with the effects might keep his interest in guitar if he's new, or prolong it if he's played for a while. The Vox AD series are great, and so are the Line 6 Spiders.

Buy secondhand. You'll get far more for your money.
I'd go Roland, especially for a young earner. It's so versatile, then he can just dial in any tones he wants. Also look at the Behringer and Line 6 stuff too.

Yeah, I was going to recommend a Line 6 Spider opposed to a Cube, more people seem to prefer them.

Is it for home practice? If you have an OK hifi, maybe a V-Amp 2. Some people talk crap about them, but I have the V-Amp Pro and it's astonishing for the money. The V-Amp 2 is very similar. I'm no n00b either, it takes something pretty decent to please a 28 year veteran! This is a good piece of gear for the money.

What's wrong with the Marshall MG series? I'm just curious.

yea, why not? I've been using an MG for quite a while and I think it gets the job done for those on a budget.

Yeah, the Vox ADTs are surprisingly good for silly money - the built in effects and modelling really sound pretty good IMHO
