Amp GAS! Epi Valve Junior and MXR Dist III!

So basically I haven't lost my amp GAS, and I just ordered an Epiphone Valve Junior Head after hearing so much praise about them on various forums. I also bought the new MXR Distortion III which I heard is a fabulous overdrive and is like a Tube Screamer with SLIGHTLY more gain, true-bypass, and a 20 dollar cheaper pricetag. Anyone have experience with either of the two that they can share with me? I got both for 210 USD, so I'm sure for the money, one of them will come in handy sometime down the line...

Thanks

Very nice.

Valve Juniors are great after they've been modified a bit. Stock, they're kind of noisy, but a great deal anyaways.

Can't wait to see 'em.

What are the best mods for them? What are some easy starter ones? I've never modded or fiddled with the inside of my amps besides changing tubes so I don't know much

There's a huge thread on UG dedicated to modding VJ's, so I'd check that out. The possibilities for that little head are nearly endless.

I'd let somebody else do the modding for you. If you screw up while modding a tube amp, you can kill yourself easily.

I once watched a friend discharge his amp's filter caps with a screwdriver. A chunk of the screwdriver went flying, and the rest of it was pretty much welded to the inside of the amp.

That's a good idea.

SOME good stuff. The majority of it... Not so much.

I lub UG anyways.

I'm planning on getting one. It's cheap, it's all-tube, and it's extremely moddable. There's a guy on UG who can mod it for cheap. His name is Kerry.

I'm looking at one of these as well - I don't think I've seen a poor review yet and it's got so few knobs and dials I may even be able to figure out the controls...
