Amp help - which to buy?

So I'm looking to get a small (small like...10 watts) solid state (or tube but I know that can get pricey) amp to use with my POD. At home I have it set up with my favorite amp of all time for use with the pod, the Atomic Reactor, but for being up at school I just want something compact with a decent speaker (just running the amp totally clean and letting the POD handle all the tonal work). Anybody on jemsite using a cheapo amp and getting decent results (cheapo I mean like sub-200 bucks)?

its going to sound like crap.. even for practicing.. you would be better off to get a small powered wedge monitor or any small powered PA box.. guitar speakers are made for midrange, and pods dont like that..

or if its just for practicing, buy a set of decent computer speakers (with a sub) and hook it into the headphone out of the pod

That's what I'm using with it now in college, pretty nice bose speakers, but Id like to get a pod + amp thing going again. And it doesnt sound like crap, I bought my girlfriend one for her birthday a few days ago, she has a tiny Peavey amp and it sounds great with the pod. I dont know what mid problem youre referring to but ive never encountered it.

Thanks El, I'll give it a shot. I heard really great things about the Blackheart amps. Apparently the speakers are nice Eminences, and it takes very well to pedals...should just take my pod to a guitar center and try it out.

I think you can get the Valve Jr head and cab for under $200. I'd probably go that route just because there is no EQ or anything, just a volume knob so I would think it would give you the purest sound from the pod to the speaker.

Yeah, i mean im being superficial but the thing is i dont like how the Valve Jr. looks. I'm more or less a progressive metal player and it just seems weird, haha.

Re: Amp help - which to buy?

Why not just get the 18 watt AR amp for school? Sure it will cost a but more but you'd get your tone. If you really want a cheap option, get an 80's Yamaha solid state amp. I use a Yamaha G100 with my V-Amp and it's pretty fun. If you have the option, get one of those Jensen speakers that come in Behringer cabs for it for cheap.

Yeah I mean, I think im going to go for that Kustom 12A. Ive checked out some youtube clips and it sounds perfect for what I want. Or if GC has a sale on that Crate V5, might pick one of those up.

I would suggest checking out the Blackheart. They're supposed to provide excellent sound for the money.

Re: Amp help - which to buy?

I dont know how much they cost in the good ol US of A but have you considered the line 6 studio 110 (bass) amp? There are a few reasons for this the clean tone of it is super clean, but I have ran my POD XT through it and it sounds awesome....

I suggest you give it a look.
