Amp project help.

I have a fender hot rod deluxe combo amp that I want to turn into a head to use with my port city music 2x12 cabinet.

My issue is that the cabinet is a 4 ohm enclosure(two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel.) And the amp has an 8 ohm output.

According to page 7 of the manual..

http://www.fender.com/support/manual...Rod_Deluxe.pdf

I can plug a cord not connected to anything into one of the speaker outputs, which would result in a 4 ohm output of the other output. My question is what kind of cable should I plug into the output not hooked up to anything. Is there a specific thing I need to use for this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, cause i'd love to finally be able to use my cabinet with something better than my crate powerblock :/..

Re: Amp project help.

why dont you just put the amp into a better combo cabinet, like a sealed or ported or whatever...use the speakers from the sound city cab or whatever....maybe turn your fender combo into a seal box cabinet....i dunno
seems more work than ever...

I'm not sure what you mean :/.

My issue is that I have a $650 dollar cabinet running a $200 Pod through a $100 crate head and I'd like to use the hot rod deluxe but in a head-format in the meantime until I save up for a "real" amp head.

I know people that can do the work as far as taking the amp part out of the combo, and even build a new frame for it.

But I need know the specifics on what I have to do to make the 2nd output on the amp a 4 ohm output. The diagram in the manual helps some but it doesn't tell me what I should/shouldn't use.

Thanks!

Looks like a speaker plug, according to the manual (see page 7). Go to Radio shack, buy a speaker plug and don't solder anything into it. by simply plugging it (according to the manual on page 7), you should be able to trick the amp into thinking everything's wired properly.
