Amp question

Hi, I was just using my Engl RBM100 amp and I accidentally turned the amp off at the power switch before I had turned the standby switch off and I heard a large thumping sound. I was wondering if this could cause any permanent damage to the amp, fuses, tubes etc. Thanks and take care.

OMG, you've probably ruined your amp forever ! ! ! !

That thump is caused by the capacitors in the amp discharging though the system and ultimatly through your power section and through the speakers, it won't really do too much damage, but its' not the most plesant sound either. So, no, no real damage.

Doing it once or twice will not hurt you, just annoy you. But don't make a habbit of it. It will shorten the life of your tubes also.

I actually like that sound, but you're right, it's not something to recommend.,

Hi thanks for the replies.I found some resources on the internet last night in regards to proper amp usage and maintenance. It was stated more than once that when turning on the amp the sequence is standby then power but when turning the amp of you don't worry about the standby,
you just switch the power off.Aparently "this lets the still-conducting tubes bring down the high voltages in the power supply".Some web links are
www.geofex.com/tubeampfaq/taffram.htm under Basics of tube amp use and www.drifteramps.com/safety.html under Standby.I have always hit the Standby first before power when shutting down my amp but according to these amp guys I did the right thing by just shutting down the power, even though I experienced that thumping sound when I did.
I would be grateful for any comments, opinions on this subject. Thanks and take care.
