amp recommendations???

a friend of mine is looking for a new amp and is looking for some recommendations. his is currently without a computer so i told him i would as y'alls opinions. his budget is about $300-$450.

here is what he is looking for:
solid state- his reason is the price
12" speaker
50-75 watts
effects loop
channel switching
seperate 3 band eq
decent sounding reverb

he wants an amp that has a decent clean tone but it must be able to cover dirty tones from 80's shred thru brutal tones ala nu-metal, european death metal and such. basically.....alot of gain.

he is currently considering a peavey transtube 112, a randall rx75r, and a couple different crates. he is not interested in the modeling amps cuz he has heard so many different opinions on them, some say they are great, some say they are too digital sounding and sterile.

opinions please.....

Re: amp recommendations???

the trans-tubes are nice amps and you can pick them up cheap used . I'd have said go for a peavey valveking 1x12 , but it doesn't do full out metal well , the gain can cover good hard rock distortion but as far as metal it would probably need a pedal . the cleans are nice on them .

the roland cube 60 is a very nice choice , the vox ad50vt is cool , maybe not totally as brutal as he may like but decent none the less .

if he wanted something more the peavey xxl 2x12 combo is nice , and the ibanez tone blaster line is decent for the money .
