Analogman Ds1 or Line6 uber metal

I've been playing for a metal band right now and me being me I never bring effects but they have been bugging me, saying guitar is not heavy enough, too dry blah blah blah,so I decided to dig up my old Ds1 and to my suprise it sounded like crap So what do you guys think? Should I go for the analogman's DS1 or the line6 Ubermetal, I've heard many have said the Ubermetal have the best distortion out there, and I've checked out the line6 webpage and they sounded really really impressive, please advice

well these are two different animals you're dealing with. one caters to one sound which sounds a lot unlike the other pedal. the line 6 will definitely get you more types of distortion and be more versatile, but i'd venture to say that what the analogman ds-1 does does it better than the line 6.

In my experience the DS1 doesent really help give a really heavy sound. Its great for making lead sounds thicker and more fluid, but it doesent really add any extra "chunk", with my amp at least.

Analog man. He can do wonderful things to that $40 pedal. I already have AM modded Tube Screamer that sounds amazing. SO I can vouch for this man.

Re: Analogman Ds1 or Line6 uber metal

What kind of amp are you using? Do you need a pedal to push an already gainy amp over the edge? Do you want all the distortion to come from a pedal? Need more information to give a good answer.

Re: Analogman Ds1 or Line6 uber metal

Line 6 uber metal sounds like ****... if you are wanting a sound anything close to what you are hearing on a metal record, then id steer clear..

Most metal records consist of something along the lines of.

Overdrive pedal for boost(added tightness) - SD-1, TubeScreamer, Bad Monkey, Treble Booster, Bluesbreaker... something along those lines, TS being the most popular..

High Gain Valve amp. (Peavey 5150, Mesa Recto, Engl Powerball, Diezel VH4, Riviera Knucklehead, Krank Rev, Framus Cobra, Cornford Mk50)

You get the idea, those type of amps.

Microphone.

Thats how it goes.

Often you will also hear records done using a Pod Xt, there are some people who are pretty clever bastards in using the amps that model the above to create immense patches that when layered up using the right eq and mixing techniques afterwards can create an awesome sound).

However.. for live band use... id stick to the first approach, ideally it sounds better on record (when captured right) and sounds a lot ****ing better than a line6 uber metal pedal.. thats a peice of trash from my experience.

Re: Analogman Ds1 or Line6 uber metal

If you have to get your distortion from a pedal then so be it, just be sure to try more pedals than just the uber metal.

My point above is that also, most metal records and metal bands are using the amps built in distortion, the reason you by a good high gain amp is for the distortion sound, to get clean you use the footswitch to change channels, i guess you dont have that ability with your amp?

I cant personaly recommend any pedals that will do the whole distortion sound for you, because i really havent ever liked a pedal sound anywhere near as much as an amp distortion, so i say just go and test a load, a DS-1 isnt high enough gain for metal really, but id think you can do better than a line6 uber metal.

If you do go looking for a new (channel switching) amp, take a look at the Peavey Valveking, they are pretty cheap and its probably the closest thing you will get to a good valve metal amp without breaking your bank, they sound very much like the peavey 5150, which for metal is a very very good thing.

Good luck anyway.
