Another tempered tuning option
I just read about this on the
Seymour Duncan
forum.
eNut is similar in concept to the
Buzz Feiten
and Earvana compensated nut approaches, only it's done by adding a thin strip of bone or metal in front of your existing nut (including locking nuts!).
Check it out!

I may try it out.

Interesting...but looks like a "zero fret" like you see on some
custom guitars
(Meshuggah's Nevborns?). Though they do have one with individual string compensation, but...I dunno.
I have noticed that my open E-major chord is kinda screwy lately since I switched to higher
guage strings
and re-adjusted the bridge a bit.

That's very cool! Anyone try one of these personally?

If the guy can supply me with one that's 1 7/8" wide, i'll probably order one of the bone ones and install it on my Dean 7-string. The metal "zero fret" one looks interesting, but i might like to try doing individual string compensation, especially for the 7-string.
I was going to get a GraphTech nut blank and try my hand at making a "shelving" nut that extended slightly over the fretboard, but this looks much easier.
Of course, this also means i'd have to buy a new tuner, since you really need to be able to do custom tuning offsets down to the cent, so i may look at getting a Peterson VS-II or StroboStomp.

I've been thinking of putting those on some of my guitars. I figure that the metal one would be virtually invisible, up against a chrome
locking nut
.

Honestly, I think these mods really should be delt with on an as needed basis. If you have a guitar that is off in a certain position, wouldn't it make sense that its a setup QC issue?
I think each guitar should be checked out on a per case basis, as I think some have it worse than others ultimately meaning a single product as a fix may actually make things worse on a guitar that isn't bad to begin with.
Just an observation.

A good setup can only do so much. The guitar can never be in perfect tune, because of the scale, and the way a guitar is tuned. No matter how "on" your intonation reads, you will still have issues.
Alot of people don't pick up on it, and that's fine. If it doesn't bother them, or they don't notice, then they don't need to bother. Some peoples ears aren't as sensitive as others. If you're like me, where it drives me absolutely up the wall, then these mods can be a godsend.
