Another wee amp question - Have you heard

Well I fancy getting rid of some gear and buying some other stuff.

I've pretty much got the guitar side figured out so I fancy a wee amp.

Contenters are
Tech 21 Trademark 10 (I listened to the sample files not bad)

Laney VC30 *has a bonus of being tube

Has anyone heard the Laney? I kept meaning to try one but now the store has sold them all.

I'm looking for an SRV type tone, I could always put my POD through it for other stuff but I'm looking for minimal messing around.

Look around and see if you can find a nice used Dumble, that was a MAJOR part of SRV's tone.

LOL *Yeah...if you've got a spare $10,000 or so, a nice used Dumble would be a great find! *Of course, I think that as of right now, all 230 or so that were made are currently spoken for. *Though the occasional one does pop up on EBay once in awhile. *Last Overdrive Special that I saw on EBay went for just over $11,000. *Start saving those pennies!

Or...you could always get a CyberTwin. *I've been able to get some killer SRV tones out of it- Vibrotone and all!

Another wee amp question

Given the choices of the TM10 and the Laney, I would probably opt for the TM10. *I'm a confirmed tube head but for a small practice amp I thing the TM10 would be more convenient. *Tube amps, even low wattage ones, usually need to be pushed a little to sound good, even a 10 watt one can be loud enough to annoy the neighbors. *I have an old blackface Champ, 8W, and if I turn it up to 5 it can be a little loud for practicing, it doesn't sound that great either. *You could always run the TM10 through a power amp and push big cabinets if you got really attached to the tone too. *The TM10 would probably be great for direct recording too, don't know if the Laney has a speaker sim out on it. *

I would guess the Laney is a fine amp too though, your call. *Hard to believe that an English amp is so hard to find in the UK.

$0.02,
Roger

Laneys used to be all over the place but then the tube fusion stuff came out so when you go in a store you'll get the LC range and teh tube fusion stuff.

I think the Dumble is out guys. I was thinking max £350

I'll go on a tour de guitar store next week and see what's biting.

Another wee amp question

Hmmm....LANEY.

I own an LC30 which is basically a VC30 with independent eq's on the 2 channels. This is why i bought it over the VC30. Theoretically they should sound the same, although i believe the speaker in the older LC30's [like mine] are different than those in the VC30. Newer ones have the same speakers though, and i have yet to try the VC30.

About the LC30: It's an amp with some great attitude. For lead I usually wind up the gain to 10 since it is still a low gain Class A amp. However, when the amp is cranked it kicks.I've never wound up the volume past 2 on high gain settings.

All i can say is that it's great for sweet emotional leads for which i use the eq on the manual but has some great chunk up it's sleave [i can give you the eq settings if you like, found them myself.].

I use an RG520QS tru it and the sounds are great. But that [the VC30] is a high volume combo......practice sessions are just tickles for that amp. I've never heard SRV, but i remember he plays tru a Bassman, i guess this will get pretty close since it sounds like a very warm marshall. That's the best description i can give you: a very warm marshall.

BTW: It weighs over 55lbs so it's not a wee little amp.
