Re: Anybody else use the Jim Dunlop Jazz III?

Here's a page from my guitar school's website that discusses picks

http://www.americanguitarinstitute.com/pick.htm

MAB apparently uses Jazz III's as well.

While I don't use the black Jazz IIIs, I do use Tortex Jazz Purple H3s.

I think they are made of different material. On the Dunlop site it says red is nylon and black is stiffo. Not sure if there's a difference, though. They both feel the same, so they must produce a different sound. Eric Johnson uses the red ones because he thinks they sound the best, so who knows.

There is a slight texture to the black ones.
The red are smooth

Re: Anybody else use the Jim Dunlop Jazz III?

I find the black ones feel slightly thicker than the red's, they have less give and give a slightly harder tone. The stiffo's wear out alot quicker and tend to have a scratchy type scrape across the stings when they are starting to go.

BTW, has anyone tried the Jazz III Ultex pick yet?

I absolutely * l o v e* the Jazz III XL's. Both colors!

IbanezGirl, I called Dunlop yesterday and was told that the Ultex Jazz III's should ship to distributors in the next couple of weeks. Have you tried any of the Piglet picks made by a company there in Australia?

It's good. I can't decide between the small and large red ones.

+1 on the Big Stubbies! I used to use Dunlop Jazz IIs in high school (red or black), but once I tried the Big Stubbies I was INSTANTLY converted, it was that quick.

Still have a big pile of Jazz IIs and IIIs I got from NAMM a few years ago though, might just try them out.

Re: Anybody else use the Jim Dunlop Jazz III?

I used to like the big stubbies, but I stopped using them after I found out that they wore out insanely fast compared to other picks (jazz III's)
