anyone have a soldano ?
i got an xxx combo and just dont like it compared to my 5150 so the xxx is going and i was thinking about maybe a soldano . Anyone have one ? I was looking at the hot rod 50 , lucky 13 and the 20th anniversary model .
If anyone has one and happens to have clips, i really apperciate if you sent one or two of them to me .
thanks

Re: anyone have a soldano ?
I used to have a HR50+, sorry, no soundclips. It was one of my favorite amps, why don't I still have it? I did the rack thing for a while, bad move (for me, I have nothing against racks if it's your thing). Great sounding head but the clean isn't squeaky clean, although it is dynamic enough to clean up well with your volume control, even on the high gain channel.
The SLOs are awesome, but quite a $ commitment, the HRs are still affordable, especially used.
$0.02,
Roger

Re: anyone have a soldano ?
i am playing a 5150 so cleans aren't a big deal to me .
I am torn , i dont know if i should get the soldano or if i should get a legacy . I am looking for somthing smoother , with a good big round responce . Somthing that can cut if needed to but layback and have smooth lead tone .
A good clean channle would great though .

Re: anyone have a soldano ?
That definitely describes a Soldano through the right speakers, can't comment on a Legacy, never tried one myself, I've been a few feet away from Vai's while he is playing them though;-)

Re: anyone have a soldano ?
after you play one you'll know why they call a 5150 a "poor mans soldano" i have a soldano avenger (one channel, lead channel of the SLO and precursor to the hot rod series) its a beast. not really any superb clean tones, but man if distortion it your thing it will slay.

well that is good to know . It is still a toss up though . if my xxx doesn't sell i am going to sell a guitar and have my usrg30 re-fretted and then sell it so either way i'll have enough cash for either amp .

Re: anyone have a soldano ?
Remember, besides the obvious high-gain users, that Clapton used Soldano during the "Journeyman" period and he had and unbelievably smooth tone at that time...

no, no thrashy i play my 5150 with the presence between 2 and 3 and gain between 5 and 6 on the high gain input . I am looking for a smoother type tone that is big, round but doesn't get muddy or too flubby

That's what I thought. Try to play one. The SLO does cost a bit of money, but if that's the sound you want then nothing else but a SLO is going to make you happy.

The legacy is a tricky deal in my opinion. I have one, and think it's great. But sometimes....
The legacy has a very specific character, which you can't dial out. So be sure to try and test one before you shove your money over the counter. They are pretty affordable though.
I haven't heard many Smooth lead tones coming out of them...
Clean channel is goooood
