Anyone REALLY have a string preference? (or place of purchase)?

Ok, I think a string is a string is a string. Most of them are really good for a short period of time before degrading (at least with my acidic hands). So, my tactic is go cheap since I'm going to replace them soon anyway.

I've tried some long life (Elixer) strings with some success, but I'm not entirely convenced.

Do you all agree?

I'm wanting to buy a bulk order of strings, get my guitars are tuned and cleaned up for storage. Right now I leave about 7 or 8 out all the time, but I really only play one or two with regularity.

What's the best retailer to pick up 10+ sets of strings?

I usually go to Stringthis.com for bulk orders.

But, yes, I do have a preference. I've used Daddario for 20 years, and recently started using Elixers on my acoustics.

I tried some DRs, and for the extra money, I couldn't see a difference between them and the D'addarios.

It's usually D'addario 10s for me (but sometimes I use EBs).

I have always used Ernie Ball Super Slinky. To be honest, I have never tried another string. I have always been so happy with them, that I just stuck with them.

DRs for me

then again I work for them, but I used them before that, and they are awesome nonetheless.

I like D'Addarios and DRs. I used DR 10's for a very long time on my PRS's and I loved them.

Re: Anyone REALLY have a string preference? (or place of purchase)?

I used to use D'Addario XL 10's on all my guitars with a trem, and Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys (10-46) on all my guitars with a fixed bridge. Mainly because the D'Addarios stayed in tune better with heavy trem use.

However one day I didn't have any D'Addarios so I used a pack of Ernie Balls, and found that now, they are just as good for my trem guitars as the D'Addarios. And th Ernie Balls last longer, So i use them for everything.

Re: Anyone REALLY have a string preference? (or place of purchase)?

D'Addario EXL110 (10-46) for 6strings, and EXL110-7 (10-46+59) for my 7strings. I was using 56 for the 7 but the 59 actually feels very nice... Reason: Available everywhere, they seem to be very stable set by set and changing brand would certainly mess the setup on the trem guitars. (I had to slightly adjust the Carvin DC400TA when I bought it and put D'Addarios to it. It had its factory 10's)
Must check into getting them cheaper on-line, but buying them locally gives me the chance to browse the music stores....
