Anyone tried a Alesis DM5 Kit?

Hey,

I wanna learn the drums however, I can't have an acoustic kit has I it will be too loud for my house and it'll take up too much room. So I was thinking of getting an electric kit. I don't want to spend too much (around £300) as it's a new instrument and I may end up not even liking the instrument.

I had a a little look round and found the Alesis DM5 kit, it doesn't sound to bad (reviews/clips) and it only costs £250. I understand a electric kit won't sound like an acoustic one but as long as it's playable I'm too fussed at the moment.

Does anyone have any experience with the DM5 kit or similar priced kits?

Many Thanks

Reece

PS Hope this is the right subforum!

well I used an Alesis D4 drum module for a couple of years for digital recording, and the range of sounds it had were great, so I'd imagine the D5 is at least as good, sound wise as that, can't make any comments re the user interface though.

I had the original D5 module with a pad kit (mixture of DAUZ and Yamaha pads) and it worked quite well. Now I have a Roland TD10 kit but that's a lot more money. With MIDI, an electronic kit can access some great sounds with programs like EZdrummer.

Cool,

I've started looking at the DM5 Pro Kit, as the module is supposedly a lot better and it comes with better and more pads. It's £100 more, I guess it's a good bargain.

My brother in law ditched his acoustic kit in favour of an electronic set up; ease of transport made up for the small inconsistencies in sound. Being primarily a highland drummer, he's a tone freak, so there can't be anything glaringly wrong.
