Attention DS-1 users - You need this Mod! (Keeley)

Hey everyone.

Happy Holidays. Here's something to make your holidays even happier:

Go to www.robertkeeley.com and read about the DS1 mod. He takes your stock DS1 and mods it so it has:

- increased fidelity (a truer signal with absolutely no signal deterioration)

-a frequency range with more detail (you will hear all your high, mid and low notes with more clarity)

-a "Seeing Eye" LED which lights up as your signal passes through the pedal; boosting it at it's strongest point and fading as the signal does which makes the pedal MUCH more musical.

-more gain, volume and sustain (put your stock DS1 next to a Keeley DS1 with the exact same settings.. the difference is incredible)

All this and it operates with less noise than a stock one.

I never used to like the DS1 until Robert sent me his. I took mine up to show Vai and he ended up keeping it. In fact, he ordered 2 more from Robert, one as a back up for his new modded DS1 and one to send to Satch! And for Steve to do that, you know it has to be worthy.

I know I sound like a commercial for Robert but I am really amazed with his work. I don't bother with gear unless I think it's aboslute top quality and I'll have a good use for it. I'd rather have no gear than a ton of ****ty gear I'll never use.

So I pass this little Jem (hehehe get it??) on to you guys. I'll take some pics of mine and post them in a bit.

Take care!
Dave

Hey cow..

I also tried his modded TS9. Again, like the DS1, the difference is substantial. No "Seeing Eye" LED, but all the other upgrades are there.

Very much so worth it.

Dammit Dave!!!

I found out about these about 3 days ago and was gonna get one, but NOW I have to order it NOW (and the compressor too....) so that I won't be at the end of the LONG line and have to wait 6 months. (There went the Xmas Cash)

Mr. Keeley gonna have more bidness than he can handle, and I'm sure he thanks you.

Interesting. I know that Tom Scholtz used LEDs in the distortion circuits of the old Rockman products... that's probably why the Keeley mods sound so smoooth.

The mod is pretty amazing. Dave gave Gary and myself a live demo this week... Gary already ordered a modded ds1 and i'll be sending my ds-1 to get modded ASAP. It definately improves the pedal 100%. I haven't used my DS-1 in many months, so it will be nice to use the pedal once again... glen

Is this a mod for a Japan made DS1 or a Tai?

Rich..

This mod can be done to any DS1. The modded DS1 sounds better than both Tai. and Jap. versions.

Hey guys!

Got one of them in too, amazing pedal - very quiet and the tone is just right, this pedal is everything the DS-1 should have been. I have some high-resolution pictures up at http://www.exhardware.com/keeley/ if anybody's interested, including a picture of how neat the interior is despite all the mods.

I can't wait to hear Vai and Satch use it!

Yeah, i'm with you there. The sound clips that were on the site sounded tinny and buzzy to my ears. It just didn't have enough "chunk" for the rhythm or smoothness on the leads to please my ears. A before/after or modded/original comparison would be nice.

Dave- Thanks for posting. I have two DS-1s here ready to send out in the new year...one to Robert and one to Analog Man (for his Pro mod). I never liked the stock DS-1 (jap. or tai.), so I'm really looking forward to trying one of these. I'm also sending Robert a Rat II (and maybe a BD-2) for mods as well...he seems to be a great guy to work with, very responsive with emails, etc.
