Thinking of getting one of these, can you tell me what sort of sounds I can expect? I am looking for late
White Lion
, Vai,
Van Halen
, Gilbert.
Can it do the Yngwie thing?
How does it sound with Strats and Humbucker equipped guitars? Are they easy to use (I have d/l the manual and it seems pretty straight forward)?
What are the pro's/con's?
Any info appreciated?
Thanks
Andy

The MP-1 is a great unit and should get you the tones you are looking for. The only con is the tube noise, but that is pretty common with almost all tube-type preamps. I'm sure you already know that the unit sounds great coupled with a
BBE Sonic Maximizer
.

I played one for about 5 years and loved it. You will get what you want out of it but you will have to spend some time tweaking. Even though there are presets that are based on "Marshall," "Fender" or whatever, it's nothing like a modeling amp. Also, your tone will be drastically affected by your
power amp
. In fact, the power amp is the place where you can, and should, do a lot of research and spend some money. I've heard some amazing sounds from an MP-1 run into the front end of an old Marshall head. It's not a "plug in and jam" unit, but it can do what you say you want depending on the effort you put into it. I think you will be pleased.

Yeah, Kent is right. You will need to shop around for a poweramp that will sound good with the MP-1. Though most of them sound decent enough.

I was either gonna run it into my Rivera Rake Reverb head or into a Marshall 9005 poweramp, would this work okay?

I have used one since 1993 and it has been great. I have also used one with a BBE since 1994.
Power amps
I have used with it in order:
Marshall 8004, 9100, 9005, 8008, 9200
Mesa Boogie
2.90
The Mesa was the best and still is! 9005 will be fine.
Here are some useful websites on the ADA

Andy drop me a email if you want to ask anything (I am in London btw)
Best wishes
Simon

Great unit, if I didn't have a triaxis, I would still be using the ADA.

Wasn't aware.
I found it looking for some microtube schemats.
I wish that site had been up when my stuff was broken, it took me forever to trace out the dead opto isolator on my old gear.
Its a good resource either way !
Cheerio !
