BBE sonic maximiser which one?

Ok i've heard so much great stuff about these that i've decided i'm going to try one
thing is which one? it seems like people prefer the 422a and 482
but what's the difference? and how about the other models?

i'll be using it on a jcm2000 DSL100 with 1960a cab
and then later i want to put together a rack with
ada MP1, G major, BBE sonic maximiser??, some power amp(haven't decided yet) into 1960a

anyone tried the BBE with any of these setups?
from what i've read certain pieces of gear don't sound too good with it

all opinions welcome

For your purposes, you can use the 482i model. The differences are in the way they work with your signal and gear. The 482 and 882 are geared toward using it the way most guitarrists so in a rack - in stereo, with left signal going into the left, and right into the right. But the 882 uses balanced XLR jacks for the connections and runs at +4dbu input levels.
The 482 runs on the familiar 1/4 inch jacks that we are familiar with as our guitar cables, and runs in the same output area that an effects box will feed it. I run mine as the LAST thing before hitting my amplifying stage. EVERYTHING in my rack goes to it, then out to my power amp. and I never turn it off...lol

There is also a 362 model, which is the same as a 482, but it's like a mono system. You get one set of knobs and they control both sides at once. The 482 allows you to set up different levels of processing for each side. Hope this helps!

Yeah, these are really cool but I think that the tone is just so cool in the DSL100, well, that's where my "if it aint broke don't fix it" ffeelings come in. BBE units really give an interesting alteration to the sound so if you like it-do it. I think it sounds great with rack equipment and puts some life back into the sterile sound of most processing equipment. If you'll get one, I'd go for a stereo version so you don't have to buy another if and when you go rack. This is one of the few non-Boss/Roland and Korg products I really dig. I have two mono versions in DI-box form, myself intended for other purposes.

I use a 362, since I'm running an effects rack with a head that only has a mono effects loop. Not sure that I'd alter the settings in the channels even if I was going stereo, though (the 362 has stereo inputs and outputs, though, just only one set of knobs)

Yeah, i'm mainly getting it for the rack but figured i'd try it out with the DSL anyway and just see how it affects the sound

so the stereo 482 will still work as good as a mono one through my effects loop(DSL), only it just uses one channel of the BBE?
is that about right?

bump

I'm looking to get the same sort of thing for the same reasons. I also have a DSL100 that I'd want to use the BBE with.

Does anyone have any answers to the third eye's last question in the above post?

wil..

PS. the third eye did you end up buying a 362 or 482? What were your experiences with using it with the DSL100?

don't settle for the cheap immitation... Don't buy into the XLR either as you shouldn't mix what type of connections you are using in your rack either use all 1/4 or all XLR which you pretty much can't do on everythign in your rack. The pro's on XLR doesn't work when you mix the balanced and unbalanced all through your rack. The 482i is just the updated version of the 482 that operates w/ less noise/smoother and it has a lot more processing power, although you shouldn't have to process you sound anywhere near that much.

Just got back from the store.
Apparently the BBE Sonic Maximiser 362 is out of stock, and will take about a month to get here.

But the 362NR is in stock...It does cost more however. The NR basically has a noise reduction thingy built in. Should I just order the normal 362? or go the NR route?

If it has a noise gate built in and functions in your effects loop it could be really cool. I would drag your gear down to the store and hook it up and see. I have a rack setup and run a gate on almost all my dirty sounds. Most of the time there's no need but it's nice to have one if you are playing somewhere where there is a hideous buzz coming through the outlets or from a beer sign or something. I configure the gate within each preset so it matches the sound, really tight for rhythm and a bit less restrictive for lead tones where you want more overtones and feedback that you can use. In short, if your amp is noisy, or if you run any stomp boxes then the NR can be a big plus.

I would've done that already. But there's one problem. I'm in Australia. In order to try the 362NR I have to buy it (ie. order it). I am unable to try before I buy.

I dig the BBE Stinger pedal I got a few weeks ago (Sonic Maximizer in pedal form, very cool), great for Hetfield riffs or "Alive In An Ultra World" clean tone (the song, not the album). But I basically got it to tide me over until I get a new amp or a rackmount BBE. Wilch, if you want it, make me an offer, hehehe.

Hey now!! I just bought a BBE 362 rack to use with my Boss GT-3 and Peavey Classic 60/60 power amp. This thing is unbelievable!!! Please everyone should take the time to give this unit a try. It might be exactly what they have been looking for. I know I have.

I leave my rack and cabs at my bands practice space. And when Im practicing/jamming at home I have 2 combo amps in my room. When I first got home and tryed the unit on my room rig, I was blown away!! The clarity, tightness, and overall harmonic integrity was vastly improved.

So I was excited to try it at practice that night. So of course the same quailty and improvement shined through my pwr amp and cabs. Very pleased. In fact, I didnt install the unit in my rack yet because I need to take it home with me. I cant play without it now!!

Im going to pick up the small desktop version to use at home. Since my amps sound like complete crap without any BBE processing. Then I can put the 362 in its home.

Ive just recieved a BBE 401 sonic maximiser I got me off of ebay. Just wondering where it should go in my rig (at the moment, ADA MP2 > marshall 20/20) and also, there are "HI z" inputs and outputs, and "line" inputs and outputs, which should I use?

I put it before the power amp, and after everything else. Not sure about the inputs and outputs you got. My 482 doesn't have those.
