Behringer V-AmpII - Your opinions

I'm looking for a new "home amp" for silent practising. I'd like to hear some opinions about the V-Amp.

I think it is great considering how cheap it is. I've had one for nearly a year and here's my +/- list:

+ price
+ led markers for all controls, easy to see what you're doing even in the dark.
+ good software available for controlling it from PC (freeware)
+ Good sounds, good selection of amps.

- All plastic, drop it on the floor and it might brake
- The effects have very few controls.
- Chorus effect stinks
- Slow switching between different sounds (maybe 3/10 sec.)

BTW: I haven't tested version 2 yet but at the same price I guess it is even more bang for the buck.

I'm sorry that I have to break this to you Wolf but it's not worth it. We've been getting about a 50% return rate on these lately. They break down easily and the software crashes. All lights running, all seems normal but no sound. We've been getting record trade-ins so I'd wait a bit before I got one if I were you. If you can't wait that long go with the POD or even the new Korg (Pandora/P-03) Palm Recorder.

My 0.02€ worth

Thanks! I thought about a POD but i think there is no AUX/IN so that i can't jam to a CD, is that right??

I never heard something about the VAmp 2 but about the VAmp 1. In my opinion the Pod is the better choice. But the VAmp is cheaper. Just go and test those things in the Guitarstore.

About the aux. Right only midi in and out.

Yeah the Korg thing is a plan, or the J-station.
I actually prefer practicing with the amp than plugging into my J-station through the computer coming out the of same speakers as what ever I am jamming to. I like to have a 3D sound at much as possible

I bought a V-Amp2 and I'm pretty pleased with it. There are a few niggles but, at the end of the day the price makes it difficult to make any real criticism.

Patricks comments about a 50% return rate are very worrying though. So far, mine has been great.

The Amp models are great, the speaker sims less so. There is a fairly big repository of information about this unit in Harmony central, and there is a large Yahoo group with quite an active board.

Hope this helps!

Hi! I am currently bed-ridden (3 1/2 weeks to go ), and grabbed a Korg Pandora PX-4. $200 from americ musical. Has really cool features: *Amp/cabinet modelling (sounds good to me, only using headphones though), chain up to like 7 effects (very cool FX in addition to the norm: synth-like, talker, random filter, blah blah blah). Built in metrenome, or rhythm section (bunch of drum patterns, with bass; bass lines are tuneable- choose key! wild...). Also has a stereo 1/8" in (Jam-along) VERY cool features with jam-along: Phrase trainer; usual "record 32 secs of audio, slow to learn" thing. Now the coolest part: Change pitch of incoming signal! While it plays! very wild- Example: Tuned to 440. Want to jam with say- Yngwie. Uh-oh. 1/2 step down. Grr. Hehehe- tune incoming signal UP 1/2 step! Only bad part- gets faster too. Tap tempo OR set tempo, tuner (chromatic), backlight (on or off). Got just over 10 hours out of 4-AAA batteries. Plus, is about the size of a couple cassettes side by side.
* Sorry if this sounds like an ad, I just really like it. And yes- I was influenced- saw Steve Vai pic of him backstage warming up plugged into a PX-3. Figured if it was good enough for him...

Can you tell me something about the pitch shifting in the PX4 (G-maj). Is it good?

Hi! The "intelligent" shifting is ok for practicing, writing, etc- not recording. It will get "step-y" when bending, can't decide what note to go to, etc every so often. *The reg. shift is decent. For $200, I am extremely happy Decent playtime on batteries (adapter is sold seperately, be careful- polarity is different than some adapters- duh...lol). Play-along feature is the coolest part ( change pitch AS it comes in), tuner, and learn-a-lick. It isn't the be-all-end-all of anything- just a low-priced jack-of-all-trades (master of none ) practice/writing tool. Nikki

I like the PX3 I got for my wife. *I use a Zoom PS01 myself. *Also very nice, and can record on smartmedia cards. *Korg reverbs are a little better, but otherwise they're pretty comparable.

I teach her. *She's got a bunch of open chords down after a couple months. *She can play "Father & Son" by Cat Stevens. *I got a Yamaha Pacifica 921 and thought I had too many guitars, so I was gonna sell it. *She says "well, could I have it if I learned to play?". *Umm...SURE! *She liked the looks of it (great taste, too - Warmoth neck on that puppy!). *I started teaching her and she gradually started preferring my Ibanez SC620. *So now THAT one is hers. *...she ain't getting my Radius... ;-)
