Best amp/rig for $1000 or under?

What do you guys figure is the best amp/rig for $1000 or under? I'm currently using a Pod XT with an Atomic Reactor amp, and it's pretty sweet, but it never hurts to hear what else is out there.

Note: I play metal/hard rock, so keep that in mind when you make any recommendations please. However, that doesnt mean that I dont want great cleans too...I do use the clean channel!! Lol.

I think you could probably pick up a used Peavey JSX for that price Great amp, good for metal and rock and has got a really lovely clean channel.

I've seen JSX combos and heads go for about 800 on the bay. As a JSX owner, I can just tell you that the amp is super versatile and a great choice for a guitar amp.

JSX

Only kidding. Again, not sure for how much they go for over there, maybe a Mesa Nomad or a F30/50/100?

Re: Best amp/rig for $1000 or under?

The combos 1400ish new from Musicians Friend, i assume on **** it could be 1000 or so used, but idk if i feel comfortable buying a used amp, lol. I'd like a Mesa, but the one thing I hear about them from many owners is that if you're not playing at a high volume you lose a lota the tone..and for me, im a bedroom player/recording kinda guy, and I def need the amp to sound great at low volumes.

I've been told by Nomad owners that they sound fine at home, I think they have a half power switch. Also, keep an eye out for the F30/50 replacements, the Express 5:25 and 5:50. Both can be run at 5w for home use.

Going back to home use, the JSX sounds excellent at bedroom volumes

Re: Best amp/rig for $1000 or under?

I hvnt tried this specific Traynor amp, but the Traynor company and "heavy metal" don't seem to come together too well in my experience lol. I'd love to be proven wrong tho, lets hear some clips!

I also recommend the JSX.

.

I think the JSX may be the most popular amp on jemsite!
