Best/cheapest way to amplify acoustic?

I'm looking for a way to mic and amplify my acoustic for band practice. I'm tired of being limited to electric guitars all of the time. Obviously I need some sort of mic and a speaker/amp, but I'm not sure what the best assortment would be. I know that they have acoustic amps; how do those sound? I could also get a powered PA speaker or something. Anyone have any recommendations? This is for non-electric acoustics by the way.
