Best Phaser brand pedal substitute for van halen sound!?

Hi Guys,

Looking into buying a decent phaser pedal for my board that will give me the 'Eruption' sound!

I know there is the MXR script reissues and also MXR EVH model but unfortunatly they are way out of my budget.

Has anyone had any experience with visual sounds oil can phaser? and does this do the van halen sound? also would any type of phaser work, EH Small stone etc ..

Please help!

You can get the orange MXR Phase 90 used anywhere from $50-70.

I have seen the EVH MXR Phase units go used from $60-80.

If you really want to EVH phase sound, go with the MXR...either one above.

To the OP, check out the Joyo Vintage Phase. I've had good luck with Joyo pedals after owning the analog delay and also having played with the US Dream (Suhr Riot clone).

A second hand Phase 90 should be easy enough to find cheap. Keep an eye on e-Bay.

Not to knock the Joyo but it doesn't come close to the Van Halen sound. It's extremely subtle. Not a bad thing but more useful for lightly phased clean stuff. Mine is now sitting in my effects room waiting for a situation it might be used in. It's definitely worth paying that bit extra for the real thing here.
However, I've got a couple of the other Joyos on my board and they are great pedals.
